Booked up to go to Lithuania then Latvia and first stop was Hostel Jamaika in Vilnius. First thing I have to say about the hostel is that it needs better signage. Although the lad who organised it had little idea himself and didn’t do too much research as to where it was, even when we were standing right outside it we weren’t aware that it was our hostel.
Once inside though it was very welcoming, and we got swapped from a 5 bed dorm (there were 4 of us), to a 4 bed dorm which was great so we had our own room. The beds were unique with being made from wooden pallets with a mattress on top, but what a great idea, and fitted in well.
The hostel has a bar, and on weekends they have parties, with music, cheap drinks and lots of people there. We only went on the Saturday and not the Friday before we went out and it was a great way to mingle with the other people staying in the Hostel, and also others that had just came to go to the party. The doors shut to the hostel early in the night so you have to ring the bell to get let in, good for safety, and there was always someone on the desk to you let you in.
The bathroom situation was slightly frustrating, with only 2 showers / toilets on the floor. However, this seemed to be the case with everywhere we went in Vilnius, all the bars seemed to just have 1 toilet.
In was a short walk from where all the bars are at, and not far from the bus station, or airport. All in all a great stay and I would go back.
