“Picturesque”

Lovely, old buildings with fascinating histories, albeit not always pleasant ones, but an excellent place to meander, stop for coffee, buy amber and linen and soak up the atmosphere.

“brilliant old architecture”
Reviewed October 16, 2013

the religious buildings were beautiful to look at and explore, although the cathedral was remarkably plain inside. The views from the old castle were spectacular, accessed by a funicular railway

“Vilnius”
Reviewed October 16, 2013

Fantastic place for a weekend away, the city is beautiful ( we went in March and although it was cold ( -18 ) it was still gorgeous ).
The KGB museum is amazing and worth a visit and the Meat Lovers restaurant was heaven in itself.

“Ok but”

Too much cars. It would be much better if there were more pedestrian streets, like in Tallinn. The Gedimina hill was great and beautiful.

“Walking Vilnius old town”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

Stayed at the Amberton hotel in Vilnius which was in a perfect location across the street from the Cathedral. Vilnius is a walking town. Wear comfortable shoes as the streets are made of cobblestones. Pilis Gatve (Castle Rd) is the easiest way to get to the shops and restaurants. If you keep walking this street you will eventually end up at Ausros Vartai (Gates of Dawn). Carry a map as you could easily take a side street that sends you off in some other direction. There are many churches and historical buildings to see which any guide book will list. And do stop for a Svyturys beer along the way.
