Nice clean hotel right in the old town - bit quiet but good polite service. Price was average 100 plus euros 5min walk to town square. 30 mins from airport - Vilnius is a quiet city not really nightlife

I've been travelling to Vilnius on business regularly for over a decade and this is so far my favourite hotel. It was warm, inviting, impeccably clean and an extremely pleasent and helpful staff. The bed was comfy and i could have lived in the floor-heated bathroom (the weather was filthy - cold and raining the entire time).
The breakfast hall was very nice as well - breakfast was good, if a little slow and the room a tad cold for my liking.
My only quasi complaint - and more a consequence of a) being on the courtyard side b) sleeping with open windows - the staff somewhere in the depths of the hotel would turn on a radio circa 5.30 - it wasn't loud but echoed and rebounded and was enough to wake me up.
The complimentary fruit plate upon arrival and nightly truffle were a nice touch.
NB - i could be feeling particularly generous since i booked through a website and got a really good deal.
With respect to some of the criticisms... location to my mind is great - central but on a side street so quiet. weddings, parties, etc. well - there are lots of places around... the fact it's popular likely atests to quality... if this is the most important than perhaps the suggestion of checking ahead is a sound one.

Room Tip: you don't necessarily want windows on the courtyard side.

You feel welcome from the moment you open the door of this cozy little hotel. The hotel has 20 delicately furnished rooms and a nice breakfast room with a lovely breakfast. Unfortunately we did not have time to try the hotel restaurant this time, but we will return. The hotel is located just a couple of minutes walk from restaurants, shops etc. in the old town.

Room Tip: Room 207, 306 and 307 has a small balcony.

If you are planning to stay at this hotel on a summer weekend - consider that twice and then do it again! Due to it’s nice location and decor it is a favorite place for the local couples to arrange their wedding ceremonies and parties. And it this is a case - just forget sleeping at night, enjoying the garden terrace, enjoying the restaurant and - if you travel by car - parking your car even if you had booked this facility. One more issue - poor ventilation in the corridors.. No matter when you enter a hotel corridor you are fully aware of what is being cooked in the kitchen… Sad but true. It could be a pearl… It is though far from one. And one more thing… You’d better travel light.. There is no elevator available so a heavy suitcase plus a room on the second floor means - trouble…

Location is perfect--though hard to find and easy to get lost! It's on a quiet historical charming street a few blocks from the main part of Old Town. The hotel building is perfect too. We had a lovely room with a remodeled beautiful bathroom on the third floor. Very quiet too, and well decorated, under the eaves. The garden is a lovely oasis and the breakfast could not be beat for service, quality and setting. Now for the negatives. There is no help but the front desk people that I can see. They were very nice--but dragging suitcases up three flights of stairs is no picnic--and there isn't an elevator. No one explained anything about the room to us, and we discovered we hadn't locked the door all night. (the door is not electronic). So be sure to check your door, and choose a ground floor room if stairs/luggage is an issue for you. We stayed two nights--had a lovely bottle of wine in the garden the first night. The second, our last, we planned a romantic dinner in the restaurant, La Perla. Only to be told they rented it out to the German embassy (ironic since this was the Jewish ghetto in WWII). We weren't able to access/ use the garden at all, let alone have dinner. The staff seemed to think nothing of this. To us, it was the main reason we stayed at this expensive hotel. So if you stay here, check to make sure the garden and restaurant are open.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms if luggage dragging and stairs are an issue. Also make sure the restaurant/garde...

We had to stay in Vilnius for 2 non-consecutive nights, and therefore stayed 1 night at the Shakespeare hotel and 1 night at the Grotthuss hotel. So let's compare:
Grotthuss
- very pretty hotel. Looks quite new. Very nice rooms. Better than the Shakespeare.
- GREAT location. Both hotels are well located.
- Nice terrace in garden.
- Food: we were there on a Sunday night, and their restaurant is closed ...BUT - and this was REALLY annoying - it meant they couldn't even serve us a coffee or drink in their beautiful garden or in their bar! Seemed like apart from the receptionist, there is no staff.
- Service is average, very impersonal. Whereas at the Shakespeare hotel, service is REALLY good. Staff very friendly.

So despite the Grotthuss hotel being more beautiful and smart, I more enjoyed staying at the Shakespeare.
