You feel welcome from the moment you open the door of this cozy little hotel. The hotel has 20 delicately furnished rooms and a nice breakfast room with a lovely breakfast. Unfortunately we did not have time to try the hotel restaurant this time, but we will return. The hotel is located just a couple of minutes walk from restaurants, shops etc. in the old town.

Room Tip: Room 207, 306 and 307 has a small balcony.

If you are planning to stay at this hotel on a summer weekend - consider that twice and then do it again! Due to it’s nice location and decor it is a favorite place for the local couples to arrange their wedding ceremonies and parties. And it this is a case - just forget sleeping at night, enjoying the garden terrace, enjoying the restaurant and - if you travel by car - parking your car even if you had booked this facility. One more issue - poor ventilation in the corridors.. No matter when you enter a hotel corridor you are fully aware of what is being cooked in the kitchen… Sad but true. It could be a pearl… It is though far from one. And one more thing… You’d better travel light.. There is no elevator available so a heavy suitcase plus a room on the second floor means - trouble…

Location is perfect--though hard to find and easy to get lost! It's on a quiet historical charming street a few blocks from the main part of Old Town. The hotel building is perfect too. We had a lovely room with a remodeled beautiful bathroom on the third floor. Very quiet too, and well decorated, under the eaves. The garden is a lovely oasis and the breakfast could not be beat for service, quality and setting. Now for the negatives. There is no help but the front desk people that I can see. They were very nice--but dragging suitcases up three flights of stairs is no picnic--and there isn't an elevator. No one explained anything about the room to us, and we discovered we hadn't locked the door all night. (the door is not electronic). So be sure to check your door, and choose a ground floor room if stairs/luggage is an issue for you. We stayed two nights--had a lovely bottle of wine in the garden the first night. The second, our last, we planned a romantic dinner in the restaurant, La Perla. Only to be told they rented it out to the German embassy (ironic since this was the Jewish ghetto in WWII). We weren't able to access/ use the garden at all, let alone have dinner. The staff seemed to think nothing of this. To us, it was the main reason we stayed at this expensive hotel. So if you stay here, check to make sure the garden and restaurant are open.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms if luggage dragging and stairs are an issue. Also make sure the restaurant/garde...

We had to stay in Vilnius for 2 non-consecutive nights, and therefore stayed 1 night at the Shakespeare hotel and 1 night at the Grotthuss hotel. So let's compare:
Grotthuss
- very pretty hotel. Looks quite new. Very nice rooms. Better than the Shakespeare.
- GREAT location. Both hotels are well located.
- Nice terrace in garden.
- Food: we were there on a Sunday night, and their restaurant is closed ...BUT - and this was REALLY annoying - it meant they couldn't even serve us a coffee or drink in their beautiful garden or in their bar! Seemed like apart from the receptionist, there is no staff.
- Service is average, very impersonal. Whereas at the Shakespeare hotel, service is REALLY good. Staff very friendly.

So despite the Grotthuss hotel being more beautiful and smart, I more enjoyed staying at the Shakespeare.

Fantastic hotel within walking distance of all the sights in old town Vilnius. Hotel staff was wonderful, and strived to meet our every need. Breakfast was excellent! Both the rooms and hotel are filled with artworks and beautiful period style furniture, but also have very modern bathrooms, extremely comfortable beds, and flat screen TV. And everything was spotlessly clean. I would definitely stay here again!

We spent three delightful days at this hotel while seeing Vilnius. The hotel has a beautiful old-fashioned feel to it while also providing flawless modern service. An excellent breakfast is served in a walled garden each morning. Were it not for the wi-fi and flat-screen TVs one could be in an earlier century enjoying the charmed life of the elite. Totally delightful! The hotel is also within a short walk of all the major sites of the old city.

Nice hotel at affordable rate and great location - near the restaurants and the city center. Helpfull staff and good breakfast. WiFi is available upon request at additional payment, but it would need a performance boost as sometimes it takes a while to get a decent connection.
