“Sorry to say it was not interesting at all!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 13, 2013

It's a pity to say that I was disappointed being in that museum.
It was not interesting there. I liked only old Lithuanian costumes displayed on the second floor.
All other things were not interesting. It is forbidden to make photos there , the only thing that we could photograph - battle model (on the photo).
I would recommend to make museum more interesting, just ask Money Museum in Vilnius how.
It's not only my opinion , half of our tourist group disappeared as soon as dull lecture with historical facts began((

“Interesting selection of artifacts, many seemingly unrelated”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 18, 2013

As others have noted, the displays lacked any chronology and the choice appeared rather eclectic. The ethnographic displays, however, were interesting and informative. It's so cheap it's worth visiting to see these alone.

“One gallery made it worthwhile”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 20, 2013

There were some interesting galleries in this major museum, but mostly lots of paintings of dukes and grand dukes and grander dukes. Some costumes. One great exhibit, not to be missed, displayed huge photo blowups of the freedom rallies that eventually saw the Soviets pull out. Inspiring and great history. However, what the museum as a whole lacked was any coherence. It would have been since to see the history of Lithuania chronologically, rather than simply a collection of paintings and artifacts.

“Great insight into Lithuanian history - in English too!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 13, 2013

The museum is housed in the New Armoury building and provides a great look into the history of Lithuania. There are plenty of artifacts - many quite interesting - to back up the displays. Most of the narrative is also presented in English which makes it easy to comprehend the exhibits. There are two floors which are done in chronological order. Currently, there is a photo exhibit on the lower floor of the 2,000,000 person protest where inhabitants from the three Baltic countries held hands in a 600km human chain to show unity for independence from the USSR in August 1989 (it was called the Baltic Way).

“Must see”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 17, 2013

I wouldn't have gone into this museum if it hadn't have been for the cold weather outside but I am pleased I did. One of the other reviewers mentioned that there weren't a lot of translations into English but there were enough and the ones that didn't have a translation were mostly self explanatory.

Lots of really interesting exhibits and something I would recommend to anyone. More than worth the money.

I particularly enjoyed the exhibits upstairs which showed traditional costumes, toys and styles of housing.
