We have been invited to this hotel, so I cannot comment on the prices. The location is very central in the old town of Vilnius, perfect for sightseeing.

The rooms are - tiny. I got one on the third floor which is built into the roof and it had around 15 square meters plus bathroom. The bathroom was equipped with golden faucets, but the shower cabin only had curtains and after a shower the whole bathroom was under water. Also I had the impression that there was a air refreshener hidden somewhere because of the persistent smell.

The service is not meeting the requirements of a fife star hotel, with the exception of the bar. For example, the pool was hidden under a foil and the sauna was cold - to be activated only with an additional fee of 50 litu (around 20 Euro) - not what I expect in a 5 star hotel!

We did not try the restaurant since the prices mentioned where quite high, even for middle European standards.

However, the athmosphere in the hotel was nice, if oen takes the time to explore a bit. There is a second backyard (the first one is roofed and used for the restaurant) with a winter garden. Very romantic!

Wifi only works near the reception.

This is a freally nice hotel with a well thought out interior. The rooms are small and badly equipped for such an expensive hotel and the breakfast does not befit a 5 star hotel either. Very well located though with plenty of good sights and restaurants in the area round about.

We have been traveling several months a year for the last decade, so we have a good sense of what is expected of a true, 5 star “fine” hotel, regardless of region of the world. The Stikliai while nice, with some really good staff, does not meet those standards. Just because the hotel has played host to a number of famous people does not make it a great hotel.

I booked the Stikliai months in advance and asked for a quiet room on the top floor. Instead, we were given a room on a main cobblestone street where the car and people noise kept us awake on the weeknights – the weekend proved to be quieter.
Request a courtyard room if you plan on staying here.

The hotel has other shortcomings. We had a broken drain in the sink, reported it, but it was never fixed. There is no wireless in the guest rooms and the closet had those very inconvenient “I don’t trust you hangers” which we have never before found in truly fine hotels.

In addition, on top of the overpriced rooms for the Baltics, there is an extra charge to use the Sauna. In addition, has anyone reading this ever stayed at a 5 star hotel where the front desk will not change larger bills in to smaller bills – ever? They simply do not assist with change. So, if you’re there on a weekend and you only have big bills from the ATM, you’re stuck. Further, the printed information sheet in each room gave the name and address of two banks open on Saturday. Unfortunately, after spending more than an hour locating these banks, they were both closed – they are not open on Saturday at all. Amazingly, reception closes at 10:00 pm so if you need assistance after that, forget it.

There are also several relatively insignificant items that indicate this hotel is not truly a 5 star property. There is only one pencil in the rooms – no pens; the sitting chairs in our room were unsittable; no bottled water was provided even though the water in Vilnius can be questionable; and the bath towels were not much bigger than hand towels.

All of this became even more pronounced when we arrived at our hotel in Riga, Latvia. The Bergs, another 5 star hotel, was substantially less expensive, offered a beautiful room on the top floor with free, wireless internet in each room, water was provided daily, it had a beautiful large bathroom with two sinks, comfortable couch and chairs, normal hangers, pens and paper, nice towels, the hotel is set back from the road so it is much quieter, everything in the room worked as it should, reception is open 24 hours a day, and the staff, as it was at Stikliai, was fantastic..

If you need to make a choice between Riga and Vilnius, we would recommend Riga.
