Description: Narrow Stikliu street in the old town of Vilnius began it‘s history in XVth century, when merchants and craftsmen, invited by Lithuanian Grand Dukes, here started their businesses - shops, workshops and taverns. The building, where currently restaurant “Lokys” is situated, was build in the end of XVth century for one of the merchants both for living and trading purposes.Over centuries, gothic cellars changed their owners for couple of times. Here have been shops, taverns and beerhouses, until 1972, when it was restored and hunters’ restaurant “Lokys” housed here.

“Recomended!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 21, 2013

Great place! We had a birthdayparty here, we got a private room in the basement. They have a lot of game food, and the quality was really superb! Not one of the 12 people eating was disatisfied. Recomended!

“Lithuanian dishes”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 9, 2013

Usually I do not really believe on recommodations of hotel personnel, but this time I took my chances. This restaurant is located in "restaurant area" and it was easy to find. The menu was not too long and had good descriptions in English. We tried some local cheeses for starters and then different kind of meat for the main course. All meat dishes were good and the price level was reasonable. This is good restaurant to visit for tasting local food.

“good food, but...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 1, 2013

The food is good, but... I would use white linen table clother, real napkins and different lightning. we were sitting in small room on the left from the entrance and it was not cosy and not warm.
Also if you pour glass of wine in front of the guests and not somewhere in the kitchen is more chic! But the food was great.

“Good atmosphere, good Lithuanian food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 31, 2012

This was our second Lithuanian food restaurant and we were not disappointed. The location of the restaurant itself is great and has a lot of history (old merchant house). The tables are clad with crispy starched white table linen, making the restaurant look and feel very upmarket. The food is rustic but well-presented and very well cooked. The restaurant specialises in game, boar, beaver and so on, although there is fish and the more mundane chicken and pork on the menu too, for the less adventurous. We had the beaver and the boar and were not disappointed. The combination of great flavours and good quality meet meant that we had enjoyed every morsel of this delicious dinner. Had no space for dessert though. The menu had a good selection of starters and a great wine list. An opportunity to try some Austrian Pinot Noir was appreciated. Definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking to try good Lithuanian food and especially for a romantic dinner.

“A nice Lithuanian meal”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 15, 2012 via mobile

We went here on a quiet, cold and snowy night and chose to ear in the old red brick cellar. We started with a lovely 1 ltr bottle of dark beer plus a glass of Californian red. My partner began with an exceptionally tasty mushroom soup that came with a selection of breads plus curd cheese. I opted for the beer snacks which consisted of delicious strips of hot fried rye bread, cheese balls, tasty local sausage and thin slices of pigs ear. Never having tried the latter before, i found them a little chewy but different none the less. For our main courses, my wife chose fillet of boar searved with poached pear and cowberries, while I selected a combination platter of venison steak, wild boar and game sausage with jacket potatoes, grilled minted courgettes ans gravy. All the meat was lovely. Tasty and tender throughout. By now, Mrs Sowie was full but I found room for a delicious pannacotta served with quince. We finished off with a second glass of red, a calvados and two coffees.

Total price was aprox £60 and while this isnt cheap by Lithuanian standards, we had an interesting, tasty and filling meal in a lovely setting with good service.
