A very good place for a casual meal.
Considerably larger than a traditional bistro, Bistro 18 serves typical french / italian bistro style food in a friendly informal atmosphere.
The food is well prepared and presented. There is quite a wide variety on the menu - mostly drawn from the western european tradition: soups, risotto, confit of duck, escalope of veal in mushroom sauce, apple crumble, creme brûlée etc. Portion sizes were good.
Although the Bistro 18 wine list is extensive, the range of non-alcoholic drinks available is pretty sparse - Coke, Sprite and a small number of fruit juices. However they were happy to provide a carafe of tap-water and some ice-cubes, a refreshing change from the 'you must pay for the water' attitude we've encountered elsewhere in Lithuania.
We went on a Saturday night, and booked ahead for evening meal (we called at 4pm same day) thanks to Tripadvisor comment. The restaurant got busy around 8pm and was turning potential customers away from soon after 7:30pm: if we had not booked we would not have got in. Serving staff were helpful and attentive, and all spoke pretty good english.
Our meal (3 x starters, 4 x main, 3 x desert, one glass of house wine and a coffee) came to a shade under 300 Lt and we thought was very good value for money.
Bistro 18 fully deserves its high ranking in Tripadvisor, It doesn't push any boundaries and appears to be set up to attract english speaking tourists looking for familiar food. But it executes against this brief very well, and we certainly would go back on a future trip to the city.
