“Palanga- the rest for soul and eyes:)”
Reviewed October 31, 2011

The town of real art and culture with its friendly and lovely people. Definitely fell in love with Palanga though staying just for two days for the weekend. Despite being a small town, you can find quite a lot spots to see in Palanga. Seemingly the people pay great value to painting as I saw so many magnificent paintings in the streets . the local people are very talented in handcraft, painting, cooking, etc. they speak Lithuanian, Russian and English. The must see in the town is a Botanic garden which comprises many interesting touristic spots to visit. The way to Botanic garden leads to Botanic Garden, Palace of Tishkevishes which is an Amber Museum now, Birute Hill and other interesting views. One should definitely visit the Amber Museum if he/ she wants to get detailed information about this precious stone ,its generation, history etc. You can see plenty of amber collections, exhibits all over the world not only from Lithuania. Inside the museum you can find an amber souvenir shop which offers you precious gifts made of Lithuanian Amber. Lithuanian people can safely be proud of this blessing of their  the entrance for the adults is 8LT (1eur =3,5 lt) , 4 lt- for students.
for the ones who loves historical places Palanga offers to visit the churches. Russian Orthodox and Catholic Palanga Churches are an amazing view for your eyes. I want to wrap up my impressions with the Baltic sea with its golden white sands and marvelous waves. One can spend 2 or more hours walking along the coast or watch the sea standing on the long pier stretching to the Baltic Sea. You can call yourself a lucky man if you get to the sea when it is windy. The wind will lay an excellent opportunity for you to collect a natural small pieces of amber brought to the coast by the waves which happens quite rarely (only when it is windy and stormy in the sea). As a memory it is suggested to collect some of them among the algae and take a small pinch of Baltic sand with you that we did the same:)
Don’t miss the change to visit Palange when visiting Lithuania ! 

“Everything Amber in one house surrounded by beautiful grounds”
Reviewed July 28, 2010

I've been to the Amber museum twice, first in 1991 and July 2010. The Museum is set on beautiful grounds in a well maintained park directly on the Baltic coast. The museum possesses displays of Amber in a Multi room loop in the former estate house of a noble family. The displays are in Lithuanian, English, Russian, and German, and are well done. This is a traditional museum, which gives the full story of Amber; where it is found, how created, several magnified displays showing various bugs and things encapsulated in the amber, etc. There are artwork made of amber on display, a personal favorite that is still on display after 19 years is a portrait of an old woman wearing a shawl made completely of polished amber. The gift shop allows you the chance to buy anything amber is you choose. Please allow time to walk the grounds (grab a map if possible) as the place is beautiful. Birute's hill lies to the coast, most of the stair paths to the top were under repair as of July 1st, but the hill top chapel is cute, and there are some minor views of the Baltic between the trees. Also on the grounds inland from the building on the north side is the famous statue of Egle, queen of the snakes (Lithuanian legend that I won't explain because I will get the details wrong).

The amber museum is located in a nice park, both worth the visit. I expected more handcrafted displays of amber, but instead there is more about the creation of amber and it's travels. In addition, there are a lot of insects on display caught in the amber. I found this even more interesting. If you have an hour or so to spend, i would recommend this museum.
