The No 29 bus, the stop is left outside the airport, (purchase ticket from shop at right before leaving airport,1.80 Litas each,1 way) it takes you along the longest straightest road I have ever been on, it stops frequently and takes a good 40 mins, not a problem for us as when not in a hurry we get plenty of people/property watching in.
As soon as the bus does a left turn this is the stop. Turn right and you will see an archway with the hotel sign above it, through the arch takes you into the St Gertrude church courtyard (we heard the bells calling the congregation and watched the elderly people making there way there through a flurry of snow on Sunday morning) the hotel is across from the church.
We booked a Juniour suite which was on the third floor Rm 306, a corner room with 5 windows in all two of which was on the corner and framed the whole church/courtyard.
The room was very spacious with two very comfotable single beds pushed together as a double (not my favourite sleeping arrangement) but slept like a baby for three nights. The large bathroom with jaquzzi bath and very warm underfloor heating is through double doors opening into the bedroom which gives a spacious feel to the whole suite, the large seperate toilet is off the bedroom via a single door. With two armchairs, a settee, drinks cabinet, safe and tea/coffee facilities we were very comfortable.
I generaly find describing breakfast dificult as it is very much a personal choice, ie coffee and a bun or the big meal till mid afternoon, (I would fall into the latter description) in my opinion it was only adequate, always fresh bacon and eggs in various guises, and all the usual that will be mentioned by other reviewers here, on the minus side the juices were not palatable at all. Never tried the restaurant nor the swimming pool so no comment.
A subject that I have never understood nor bothered me is the complaints from reviewers about staff being "surly" at any hotel, however during this stay It was quite noticable that the female staff almosty went out of there way to avoid the normal "good morning", strange I thought. Reception staff were very nice.
Anyway all in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, would I stay here again?, yes, but I had quite a debate about the other 4 star hotels before picking this one (for it's location). Hmmmm wonder what the others would have been like......
Ordered a taxi from the hotel for the return to the airport, four of us for 60 Litas, can't be bad, but the car had touching 500,000k on the clock, and it showed! Had a great 3 nights in Kaunas and we had the added bonus of it being Kaunos market weekend with lots of stalls with lovely food and beers, also did all the fav Tripadvisor resaurants/bars, nice one!
