High Tatras are definitely a place to see. If you're looking for a place to stay and feel most welcome, enjoy great food and service and relax after a day full of hiking, choose Grandthotel Stary Smokovec (and no I'm not being payed to say this, I just really enjoed it there;).
Being more of a family hotel, you'll find many kids playing in the main hobby (under guidance of helpful staff), but also dogs that are welcome, as well as older people enjoying the terrace view. It's definitely a quiet hotel, not really one if you want to party hard into the morning.
What's great is the service. Staff is superhelpful, each request was answered with utmost care and the all-present smile. Be it the reception to help you renting a boat at Strbske pleso lake or the waiter offering you the best wine for each course, listening patiently to jokes and stories of elder people, we've never met anyone who seemed tired, bored or being in any way negative towards the hotel guests.
And hey, did I mention there's a great spa too?:)More
