I do not understand reviews of poor service, I was served by two waiters and a waitress in a timely but unrushed manner with great friendliness, which made for a pleasant visit. The food was unexceptional, at best. The gnocchi with local sheep's cheese and bacon was a weak dish, tasting rather like sloppy rice pudding, and enlived only by the bacon. The traditional pancake with meat and peppers was rather better and quite pleasant, though rather akin to what passes for a Monday night level supper at home. Pleasant and cheap local wine helped the whole thing along, and a glass of slivovica (spelling?) made a good end.

The reviews are right , the entrance is unassuming , but once inside it is really cosy. You may wish to book as this place is clearly very popular, with local people and tourists alike. The service was relaxed and very friendly. The food was great . Local dishes well cooked , with good local wine and great value. It is very much worth the trouble of tracking this restaurant down , fab wine bar across the road for a pre or post dinner drink. Try this place and you won't be disappointed.

At first you might be put off by the approach to the restaurant. Although close to the centre it is up a back street. Once in the door there is a not particularly inviting corridor to negotiate. But once in the restaurant all is well. It's a cellar with curved ceilings and feels like a local restaurant rather than the ubiquitous euro-look elsewhere. The waiter was first class - his English was good enough for him to engage in a bit of banter with the diners and to help them choose from the menu. The menu was mainly local dishes. My wife started with the Armenian Salad and he did warn us that it was entirely grated carrot, garlic and mayonaisse. It was fantastic - must try and make it at home! I had the chicken pate with cranberry sauce. It was really tasty, made all the more so by the local speciality breads. We shared a meat platter for two with grilled sirloin fillet, pork medallions and turkey breast. The whole was served with the best grilled veg I've ever tasted in a delicious gravy which we mopped up with, french fries and rice. The whole lot was topped off with superb Hungarian cake with cream. Yummy and all washed down with a variety of local beers described and recommended by the waiter. A nice touch was when we tipped at perhaps 15% and the waiter, realising we we're perhaps not used to the Euro asked "Are you sure?" It was a nice moment that rounded of a really nice evening to end our first day in Slovakia.

Don't be put off by the dingy entrance. Keep walking, and eventually you reach the restaurant, or even better - if the weather is good - the back garden. Even this has no frills or fancy furniture, but it is a lovely secluded oasis where you get good service and tasty food. We had lunch here twice during the last week. I had the chicken Jose (quite hot), and the pork medallions with mustard/honey sauce. Both good, the pork was excellent. Good service, reasonable price, lovely weather. What more could you wish for.

I had a tasty chilli chicken dish with rice. It was very really flavoursome. The service was great. I would go back in a heartbeat. The garden at the back is lovely as well.
