“Excellent hotel to stay in Bratislava”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2013

We stayed in this hotel one night. The location is very good - in the historical center of Bratislava. All you need as a tourist is just minutes away. And I wouldn't advise to stay at the other districts. The breakfast was delicious and for any taste. We liked a lot the reception's team - they were kind. I didn't regret my choice to stay in this hotel. I recommend it.

This is a lovely, small hotel in a perfect location for exploring Old Town Bratislava. At the reception desk, Susan was most kind and helpful with all our questions and requests. The room was quite comfortable and clean. Breakfast was basic, but sufficient. It was quiet during our weekday stay. From the hotel, we walked to all the sites and restaurants in Old Town. Also, we arrived by train and walked the 15-20 minutes with our roll suitcases to the hotel. Would definitely recommend to others and stay here again.

We spent a long weekend without kids in Bratislava which is a great, quiet and historic getaway and we decided to book this small hotel in the heart of the old town. We were NOT disappointed. The hotel is clean, staff kind and the location is the best in all of Bratislava. You are in the heart of everything there is to visit as the town outside the old city is not very attractive. We could walk to everywhere, the pedestrian streets and squares were animated, the cultural offering was sublime (we happened to walk straight into a Festival of 35 choirs from around the World) and Michalska Brana was the perfect place to retreat for a quick nap or rest. Rooms were modern and esthetique and the breakfast was full and delightful. We'd stay here again when we come back.

Room Tip: On hot Saturday evenings some party noise from the streets must be foreseen, but this is a small pri...

Nice little hotel right in the centre of the old town. Very pleasant and helpful staff, and the room was great. The breakfast was a little disappointing, not much variety, but all in all the place was lovely. I only stayed for one night, a Saturday, and I was surprised there were not many people out and about in the streets!

Only stayed here for 1 night after being on holiday in Vienna, before flying home out of Bratislava airport. The location is excellent, just a short walk from the entrance into Bratislava's beautiful old town. It is a very old hotel tucked in a side street, but our room was very modern with up to date bathroom and facilities, fridge, safe and tv. It was very comfortable and cosy and would have loved to have stayed longer! Breakfast wasnt as good as other hotels we have stayed in but was adequate and for the price we paid for such a lovely little hotel in a brilliant location, we couldnt really moan.

The streets in the old town are very atmospheric, with plenty of places to eat and drink and all are just a few minutes walk from the hotel. Prices are very, very reasonable. The castle is within walking distance (albeit steep in places!) but is well worth the effort.

We stayed midweek so weren't bothered by the bar across the road or any stag parties as other reviews have mentioned, and can imagine that it would definitely spoil your stay, but please don't be put off visiting sometime between Sunday to Thursday as you would be missing out on a beautiful place. If we returned we wouldn't hesitate to stay in this hotel again.

I arrived at about 10 PM; the receptionist was very friendly and helpful, and so were the other receptionists along my 4-night stay at the hotel.
There is a modern elevator in the hotel.
The room I stayed in was comfortable. It has a safe, but I missed a kettle for making coffe/tea. The bathroom was shiningly clean.
Buffet breakfast was excellent, serving more than I expected. The staff was very friendly.
The night before my departure I asked to keep some frozen and refrigerated food in the hotel's freezer/refrigerator. All persons involved were most helpful in dealing with my request.
One point (beyond the hotel itself) visitors should know about: the hotel is located in a pedestrian zone, and the paving stones along 60 to 80 meters from the nearest street with trafic are not very convenient for rolling luggage on wheels...

Room Tip: My room on the 3rd floor was away from eventual noises from a pub across the street.

Just got back from Bratislavia after spending 3 nights at the above hotel. Excellent location in the old town with just a short walk away from bars, restaurants etc. Hotel was clean and comfortable and staff very friendly. Breakfast was very good with a range of cold cheese and meats, fruit, yoghurts, coissants and cereals. Plenty of lovely, strong coffee and juice. You could also order (1 per person) a hot option which included: bacon and eggs, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, or continental sausages. Staff will book airport transport at cost of 23 euros but it is easy to catch bus/tram to station. Only downside to this hotel is that it is off a street with some busy bars. On the Saturday night, and to a lesser degree on the Sunday, there was a disco going on in the one. This backed on to the end rooms of the hotel and there was a distinct thump, thump noise from the bass of the music. We could only just hear it but our friend, who was staying toward the front of the hotel said it was more pronounced there. We were told this disco only happened Wed - Sat but not sure if this changes in the main weeks. It was not awfully noisy but it might upset light sleepers or early to bed types. Something to consider. Sleep quality in our room very good maybe not so in others. All in all would highly recommend.

Room Tip: Be aware of those nearer the disco.

Hotel Michalska Brana is located in a very quiet street of the pedestrian zone of the Old Town, Bastova Street 4. Bastova Street is considered to be the narrowest and most romantic street of Bratislava. Street itself tells many stories. It was built in 13th and 14th century and in medieval age and for centuries it used to be famous for being a home of the city hangman. His house was demolished and replaced with a new baroque building in the middle of 18th century right facing the property of our hotel. Hotel Michalska Brana is neighboring to majority of embassies and also therefore our location is very safe. All sights on hand - we are only a 1 minute walk to nearby Saint Michael’s Gate, cafe and entertainment Michalska Street or medieval Kapucinska Street, just about a 5 minute walk to the Opera or Presidential Palace.
