Owner description: Historic neighborhood filled with charming narrow lanes, burgher's houses and nobles' palaces in addition to many of the city's important buildings such as the former Palace of the Hungarian Estates, the late-Gothic building of the Academia Istropolitana and the Leopold de Pauli Palace where Franz Liszt performed as a child.

Bratislava is a typical day trip from Vienna and, if you had enough time to see everything in Vienna of course, I would certainly reccomend. The Old Town is very small and does not have many specific attractions apart from the buildings, which are very well conserved in my opinion. Look for the many cool statues, like the guy coming out from the sewer, the Cumil, and the statue of the Beautiful Ignaz, the guy with the hat. To have lunch me and my friend tried the Bratislava Flagship Restaurant at Namestie 8, which serves some above the average slovakian food.

“Loved the Old Town”
Reviewed December 23, 2013

I really enjoyed walking around the Old Town of Bratislava. Its different than Vienna and I actually liked it better because it had more character to the buildings - they weren't all in exactly the same style. We went right before Christmas, so the city was all decorated for the holidays. We didn't take any public transit and just walked. As long as you stay in the touristy areas, you will be fine. I appreciated that prices were lower compared to Austria and Germany. It is true that there isn't that much to see, so you really can see everything in one day or even just the afternoon/evening.

“No match for Vienna”
Reviewed December 22, 2013

It is only one hour away from Vienna and has a very typical European flair. However to the majestic capital of Austria, it is no match. People are very polite and it is safe. But the town has not much to offer for tourists.

“Not worth a day trip”
Reviewed December 21, 2013 via mobile

Brataslava is dirty, graffiti covers most buildings including many in the old city center. Lots of empty vodka and other alcohol bottles in street and in doorways. Public transport is also run down, and person at information desk in main train station was unhelpful and a reminder of the old days of communist Eastern Europe. Others are saying they liked this city but really it is uninteresting and not worth leaving Vienna for even a day.

“Charming and just the right size for a weekend”
Reviewed December 19, 2013

Reminded me of Prague, Vienna, Cologne, Dubrovnik, but smaller and better in my opinion. The Christmas markets were wonderful. Lots of restaurants, bars and nightlife, good for solo travelers or groups. I will go back in the summer to enjoy the waterfront but also love it around Christmas time. Most people speak English and they are very nice and hospitable.
