Reviewed October 11, 2012

Hotel is clean and I found the staff friendly and helpful.
The food is very good and there is plenty of choice for breakfast so caters for most tastes

On the PLUS side: Hotel has lovely big windows that actually open!! This was fantastic and much appreciated.
The bathroom was clean and seemed modern
FREE WI-FI!!! this was a really good thing for me
I found a Tesco Express not too far away which was basic but fine as I was looking for fruit and bottled water BUT English is not widely spoken - so lots of sign language!

On the DOWN side: Hotel is rather tired, so dont expect Radisson standards!
The hotel still allows smoking in some rooms, so although I was in a non-smoking room I suffered as other smokers seemed to be on the same floor and I could share their cigarettes - which was most unpleasant!
The surrounding area is not particularly nice - there are ample taxis, and there are buses nearby so getting around isnt difficult. But I was not comfortable walking any distance

On the whole it was OK for the price I was charged, but to be honest the smoking REALLY spoilt it for me and for that reason alone I probably wouldnt stay here or recommend to business colleagues. But if you are on a budget, and dont mind the area or the smoking (and dont have mobility issues) then this might be just right for you!

(oh but dont use the restaurant if you are not keen on stuffed animals and skins!)

Dear customer,
Thank you very much for telling us your opinion. We are very happy that you were satisfied with our employees and hotel cleanliness. We also appreciate your positive valuation of St. Hubert restaurant specialties quality, breakfast selection and free Wi-Fi. We are very sorry to hear that part of our services was not at the level that you have expected. Yes, we still have a part of a hotel with smoking rooms, but we are progressively reducing their number. We are very sorry, that you were disturbed by other guests. We hope that in case you decide to stay with us in the future, your satisfaction will be on a higher level.
We wish you all the best.
With kind regards,

Positive:
-The hotel is good. The rooms are big enough to get an extra bed for our child. They are clean, and have all the necessary things needed when traveling, (WiFi, hair dryer, fridge, towels, shampoo, body lotion, etc.). We also had water and Coffee and Tea in our room, and a water boiler (which is nice if you have a baby).
-The restaurants have good prices (2 euros for coffee and cake! and 12 euros for a complete menu)... and room service is ok. The breakfast was great, it had everything, so you will always find good things to eat!

Negative:
The negative thing is that it is quite a long walk to the center. SO you cannot just go to your hotel for a quick break... and taxis are relatively expensive and not easy to find. As a family it was a big inconvenient, because in the early afternoon we needed a break, so we went back to our room. And then didn't go out anymore since it was a long distance and didn't feel like jumping in a taxi, knowing that we have to take a stroller...

In general: A good hotel, I would recommend it to my friends if they don't mind a having a 20-25 min walk to the center.

Room Tip: It looked to me like all the rooms are the same...

My family and I stayed at the Apollo in September 2012. Prior to our arrival
I had several questions for the hotel which they promptly provided thus my inital impression being positive . The location is a 30 minute walk from
The old town, however the bus station is only a few minutes walk away . The rooms were clean and the breakfast provided plenty of choice .

However ......I do not feel this hotel
Is suitable for those with children / those with mobility problems . This primarily due to there not being any lift access to the dining room
For breakfast - it is via two flights of stairs only . Furthermore , despite having an 18 month old daughter, we were told by the hotel they did not have a high seat chair meaning our daughter had to sit on our knee at all times . I cannot understand how a supposedly 4* hotel can provide a travel cot - but no high seat chair .

As for the staff , some were friendly , whilst others not . One evening we went to the coffee shop / bar for a snack . It was totally empty and the tables set for 3. We sat down, for the waitress to tell us she could not serve us as 'a group of 4 was too many' ??? We were told that we would have to go up to the resturant where they would provide our snack . On our arrival to the resturant , the staff refused to serve us the bar menu - despite the fact we explained we had been sent upstairs . We had to leave the resturant , for the waitress in the (still deserted ) bar to offer to move over one chair to make it a table of 4. Why that could not happen in the first place i do not know - other that the waitress could simply not be bothered. The treatment we received was riduclous ! We went instead to a gorgeous Greek resturant which is on
The main road in
Front of the hotel to the left and that I cannot recommend highly enough .

As for Bratislava , it's beautiful . We had lovely sunny weather and the old town is worth a trip to see . We also got a bus to Vienna for day trip which is worth the journey . Yes I would recommend Bratislava - but no I will not return
To a hotel that is not suitable for familes .

Dear customer,
thank you very much that you have told us your experience. We would like to apologize for all inconveniences that have happened during your stay at our hotel. We have already spoken to several of our staff members. Your experience with a chair for your small daughter (which we of course offer as a standard), as well as serving snacks for a family of 4 people at the lobby bar – this is absolutely not a problem and we when we read your comments, this was like a bad dream also for us. We would like to assure you that this is not a standard of Apollo Hotel. We are honestly sorry, that your stay did not continue as the nice beginning, with as you wrote nice check-in, positive impression of room, cleanliness and breakfast selection…
By telling us what has happened, you are giving us the chance to improve our services and work with our staff members. We appreciate this and would like to thank you.
We wish all the best to you and also to your family.
With kind regards,
Apollo Hotel Management

I stayed here on business. The staff on arrival were very friendly and the room was of a good size although it could have done with a lick of paint. This is your standard european hotel with an old feel about it although i feel this is represented in the cost per night.
The hotel is in a quiet location and about 15 minute walk to the centre.

We had a great stay with our family in Hotel Apollo. The room was huge and very well equipped. Breakfast was abundant with lots of warm a cold food options. Small details like free Wifi and Coffee / Tea making facilities were a pleasant surprise. We will be back soon, thank you.

Room Tip: Try out the dinner menu @ the restaurant!

I stayed here last March for a business trip. When I arrived the receptionist was friendly. However, Room service beyond 10pm is not available so if you are hungry, either you settle for bread from the pantry or head to your mini bar. There are no shopw nearby except for a grocery a bit across the street ( which is a little dusy- dont go there is you have asthma).

It is also easy to hail a cab infront of the hotel and the local transport is also available nearby. BUT it will be a challenge to speak in English since not so many (even the receptionist) could understand and express in English.

The buffet for breakfast is a bit repetitive so it might help to eat somewhere else nearby. The location is okay but something you will not find yourself excited about.

Hotel is really nice, huge rooms (deluxe) can accommodate family without any problems (2 adults, 1 child 4 YO, 1 child 4 months old), rich breakfast with hot items, lack of bread, but hotel was fully booked and staff was trying to supply as fast as they can!
I would recommend it, nice quiet location close to the City centre. Parking in front of the hotel! Nice Bar and terrace during the summer. Staff very nice and kind! Very nice 4* hotel!
