“Don't listen to people who tell you to take the train- this is better!”

Vienna to Bratislava Hydrofoil
Reviewed May 31, 2013

As long as you are not in a huge rush, this is an amazing way to get between the two cities. I had read some reviews on here saying take the train, really pleased I didn't listen. We took the train on the way back and while it was 5 euros cheaper, it's just a train and in terms of pick up and drop off it isn't as convenient.

The view from the ship was amazing- the best bits being the view of Bratislava castle, of Devin castle, and my favourite bit of all, along the canal in Vienna with cute little fishing houses on both sides. It would have made a special pleasure trip, let alone a convenient way to get between two countries, have never experienced anything like it anywhere in the world.

We were recommended this trip by our hotel and it was excellent. We caught the 10:30 hydrofoil to Vienna, it only takes 90 minutes and there's plenty to see on the way. Boat was comfortable with bar and toilets, good view from all seats so don't spend extra on reserving the front ones. Had a walk around Vienna and some lunch and caught the 16:30 return boat, back in Bratislava for 18:00.

This has got to be the only way to travel on a very hot day. We went to Budapest first for a few days, then got the coach to Vienna, then this up the Danube to Bratislava. So enjoyable, easy and cheap too really for the kind of experience. Boarded then got a drink and something to eat and sat outside all the way up the river. Obviously the trip was enhanced by the fact that the sun was shining and it was very hot, so the breeze was great. As Bratislava Town is so small on arrival your hotel can't be to far away, so it's ideal as you dis embark right near the centre of town.
No airport transfers to pay for either, so take that into consideration when doing your costings.

Running out of time on a bike ride from Budapest to Vienna we decided at very short notice to take the hydrofoil from Bratislava to Vienna. What a wonderful decision that turned out to be.
On - line booking..........easy and efficient with plenty of helpful information provided by the booking office.
Ticket collection in Bratislava.........easy again with plenty of useful advice given by the friendly staff.
Boarding the vessel............easy again with bike racks being provided as well as very convenient luggage storage.
Captain and crew............efficient, friendly, informative.
A most pleasant interlude which far exceeded our expectations.
