“For special opportunities or a simple lunch ...”
Reviewed August 23, 2013

Elesko is a perfect place, if you wish to have a quick, simple and let's say quite cheap lunch, if you want to have a romantic dinner or a sunday afternoon brunch with your family. A restaurant for any opportunity (maybe except late night dinners). And also great wine. That is how I can describe Elesko. The cuisine here comes from simple slovak food with a new view and much more sophisticated approach to cooking. Most of the dishes are composed of only two-three major tastes and all food is served rusticly and simply. The chef also game meat from the winery's own production (the restaurant is just a part of the Elesko Winery itself, and the company breeds deer, sheep and other animals), milking lamb, cheeses and wine. If you wish to drink wine here, you can choose only the wines of the winery itself - a bit of a commercail ... ok a big commercial here .... but on the other side, they prodcue all types of wines: still, sparkling, low-alcoholic, red, rosé, white, dessert .... and you can choose from over 20 varieties. They have a tasting menu for a good price, where you can taste the local flavors, and they offer also seasonal menus with themes such as asparagus, pumpkin or strawberries. The staff is servile, the food is very good (just a few times it lacks some fantasy and creativity, even though i never had problems with its taste), the atmosphere is fantastic, family-like, the value is good, although in the last time it seems it is going a bit higher. Summa summarum, something between 4 and 5 points, but since I am a bit strict, i give it only 4 points.... However, it is still a very very good restaurant ... and also winery! :D

“Interesting mix of art and food”
Reviewed August 9, 2013

This restaurant is part of a complex of vineyards and an art museum. When viewed from the outside, you'll see an unattractive concrete bunker. Once you are inside, its a hidden gem.

Elesko is a very good combination of a stylish decorated restaurant while at the same time being friendly to your wallet. Dishes are present in a classy way, yet they are budget friendly and very tasty. I'v tried the tasting menu (6 small portions from start to dessert) representing traditional slovakian cuisine with a twist.
Also the service provided by the staff was top notch. Their knowledge of English might be limited, for me it never caused any problems.

A highly recommend place, tho be aware that this place is 45 min of driving outside of Bratislava.

Austria Hungaria cousine as they call it. Love the attitude and well know flavors brought to highest quality. Try wine pairing with your dishes and be persuaded Slovak wines belong to the best in the world!

“Fine dining that will impress both your tastebuds and your wallet”
Reviewed August 4, 2013

Elesko is located outside of Modra, approximately 30-45 minutes east of Bratislava. The restaurant is located in an award winning building that also hosts the winery of the same name and a museum of modern art that has several of Warhol's originals in its collection... It is surrounded by vineyards and it offers a really serene surroundings.

It offers local cuisine - some traditional and very simple dishes that many of the Slovaks would know and enjoy from their mother's or grandmother's kitchen, however Elesko gives them a fine dining twist with a very good service and great quality ingredients. Moreover, in terms of pricing, Elesko is very accessible - it delivers a first class service for a fraction of a price you might be charged in downtown Bratislava for "authentic Slovak food".

I have eaten at Elesko during a company function few months ago and managed to sample their menu in a form of a buffet, however I have returned to try their tasting menu with a friend visiting from abroad to give him a taste of the local cuisine.

The tasting menu offers six courses in minuscule rations for a price of under 24 euros. It gives you a nice overview of both local cuisine and their menu. The game paté with cranberries and marinated pear was to die for. Perch with carrot purée, lemony peas and sautéed carrots was very interesting. The fish was tender, the purée was very smooth and sweet - however the peas could be little more lemony. The desert - pierogy with plums and toasted breadcrumbs were just as good as my mother's. The portions are quite small - but then you are sampling six various dishes - and this adds up, so you won't be leaving hungry.

You should also try Elesko's own vines or if you're unfortunate enough to be the driver - sample their non-alcoholic grape juices that are made on location.

Service can be Achille's heel of many of Slovakia's establishments. However, the waiter serving us was extremely attentive, courteous and helpful. You don't often see waiters replacing your cutlery wearing white gloves...

They should only sort out their POS terminal so one can add tips to the bill, so one does not feel like an old scrooge when paying by card and not having any spare notes around...

Elesko is little of the beaten path, but it is well worth the detour. It is certainly one of my favourites.

“The best Foie Gras and Carp”
Reviewed July 18, 2013

This place is simply amazing and surprising. Besides amazingly good cuisine and pleasant environment, you can enjoy the art gallery with interesting exhibitions. After the best Foie Gras and Carp (cold, as it should be), we've enjoyed the exhibition of Andy Warhol's art collection. Unforgettable!
