We enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Allegro in the centre of beautiful Tihany. Our host and staff could not have been more welcoming and friendly. The owner has a keen interest in Hungarian history and music.

Owner is helpfulness herself (in Hungarian, English and German); adequate rooms; good breakfast (though cooked is extra). Free parking outside. Room prices start at E101/night, which seems a lot in Hungary for a single person. Quiet and safe, though. No other meals, but pleasant restaurant 5 mins walk up the street towards the church: excellent traditional food, cooked to order, helpful E-speaking waitress, reasonable prices.

There is a lovely round-promontory walk which takes 4+ hours, depending on route. Lovely forests and fields, also lake-side. Take anti-mozzy stuff, as there are lots of these creatures -- not just in the evening. You will find cafe-bars on the way.

Room Tip: The superior rooms are indeed superior, but E20+/night more

Friendly and helpful owner and staff.
Comfortable room with a superb view.
Swimming pool and high level garden was wonderful at the end of a hot day.
Excellent breakfast.

The weather was very hot when we were there and we enjoyed going for early morning walks round the lakes and hills, coming back for breakfast at about 9.45.

After reading the reviews here, we decided to book the Allegro as opposed to another hotel in Tihany. The hotel is very central within the town and everything is within a few minutes walking distance. The staff was friendly and helpful at all times and we got useful information on places to eat from them. We also rented bicycles from the hotel which were great to get around the penninsula.

The standard room we had was disappointing. It had dated decor and was tiny. However, the bed was very comfortable. The shower was over a small bath and enclosed by a clingy shower curtain. Overall, for a hotel in Hungary charging €100 per night, I expected much more. It advertises itself as a 4-star hotel - our room was far from that, as was the buffet breakfast (hot breakfast was extra). If I was going again to Tihany, and it is well worth a return visit, I would take my chances on taking a 'zimmer' or room in a local house for a fraction of the price...

It is an easy task to join with all the others who have reviewed this lovely property. It is the perfect place to stay in Tihany. Though the rooms were superior, the breakfast plentiful, the grounds lovely, the element that makes the Allegro is the personal service from the top management to the lowest staff member. Everything about my stay made it one of the best part of my recent 35 day sojourn.

We arrived late after taking a train from Croatia, and the staff was extremely helpful. They took our bags up to our room and poured us a complimentary glass of wine to help us relax after our long journey. The staff spoke English very well and were extremely helpful the entire stay.
The room was spacious and had a mini fridge to use free of charge. The bathroom was recently re-done and was very nice and clean.
Our room had a separate door that opened right out onto the patio. There was a nice sitting area under a covered patio with couches and a flat-screen TV. There was a large pool and lots of space to sit out and enjoy the sunshine. The patio and pool area are private and can only be accessed by hotel guests.

The location was great--right in the heart of Tihany. Right outside the hotel doors there were lots of cute little shops and restaurants. Everything was within walking distance. The hotel staff helped us plan outings around town and even set up a private tour for us and two other hotel guests to see a local wine cellar. The cellar was privately owned by a family in town who does not bottle or sell their wine, but the owner was happy to send us home with a water bottle full of Riesling! It was fantastic.
I cannot say enough good things about the staff at this hotel! They were so kind and helpful! The owner even drove us to the train station the day we left so we wouldn't have to take our luggage on the bus. Just the nicest people you could hope to meet.
My mother and I had an outstanding experience and will definitely stay here the next time we are in Tihany.

My wife and I celebrated a beautiful honeymoon at the hotel for a week. We were very happy with it.

Rooms:
The room we got was spotless and clean. The size was just right, with nice furniture and a bathroom. I called ahead and spoke with the staff to inform them that we were going on a honeymoon and we were greeted with a complimentary bottle of champagne and flowers in the room. As a good bye gift we received a lavender filled pillow, a typical product of the area.

Facilities:
The facilities offer a nice backyard with an outdoor pool for the guests. They also have plenty of sun benches and a comfy sofa and a TV covered with hard roof.

Staff:
The staff was incredibly helpful and we were always greeted with a smile. We also got some excellent restaurant recommendations. They speak very good English and German.

Surroundings:
Tihany is a small town in a peninsula in the lake of Balaton. It has a beautiful and unique Benedictine Abbey from the 11th century. On the peninsula itself there are small lakes surrounded by hills creating a truly beautiful landscape. This is an easy going town perfect for a romantic getaway but for singles looking for a place to party I would rather recommend some of the bigger places around the Balaton.

Breakfast:
They offer a buffet with a selection of cheese and ham, with cereals and juices and tea and coffee etc. It was fresh but I missed some warm food like an omelet or bacon.

Summary:
We were super happy with our honeymoon here and we will visit it again. Highly recommended for a romantic getaway but young singles may want to look elsewhere. The staff was really friendly and helpful, and we were so impressed with our reception when we arrived.
