Szentendre is a quaint village to visit and certainly worth the trip out of Budapest. We went on a Sunday so there was plenty of atmosphere. It is recommended that you go by boat and return by train. This way you are free to return when you please. The boat leaves at 10am NOT 10.30 as stated in another review from Pest (Vigado Square) landing and Buda (Batthyany Square) landing and returns at 5pm. 2000HUF One way. 1 hour 30 mins. Train returns to Batthyany Station every 20 mins. It takes 45 mins.

It's such a nice little town a little way away from Budapest. We took the HEV from Batthyani Ter and the train was cute and comfortable. Though it is not AC and would get uncomfortable in summer months, we were lucky as the weekend was very cool and breezy.
The main square is about a kilometer away from the train station. Over the weekend there were shops/eating places all over the main city square. Lots of little shops selling souvenirs, cheeses, drinks, dolls etc.
There are a lot of museums dotted on both sides on the main street !! Worth a visit.... :) The outdoor restaurants are lovely with the outdoor sitting :)

There are lots of little tourist shops here so you will find something memoir to take back home. Walk along the original cobble road that led to Budapest and view some very old historic homes.
Seems a lot of tourist buses here on the Sunday the day we went but the stalls are there everyday.
Food and drinks in the area is cheap, but not really the souvenirs. Located near the banks of the Danube. OK for a look or for a shopping spree.

This is a 'cutesy' town a short trip from Budapest. It has a rich history, some of which you can see today if you stroll away from the centre. Otherwise it is full of tourist shops with the usual tourist stuff (self admission: I am not a shopper and do not like browsing in shops); outdoor restaurants, which although nice to sit at and watch the other tourists go by, charge double for their food and drinks compared to similar places elsewhere. If your goal is to see a bit of this beautiful country, Hungary, then Szentendre is hardly for you. I took the lovely boat trip there up the Danube from Budapest, but made the mistake of buying a return ticket, so that I as stuck in Szentendre for a whole day. A better strategy would have been to go one way on the boat and then return by train at a more convenient time. It is certainly a pretty town, and well-worth a couple of hours, but not a whole day.

Cute little town a half hour train or 1hr 30min boat trip from Budapest. Little art town full of souvenir shops, cafes and restaurants.
Makes a nice little break from Budapest and easy to get to
