“Synagogue, Szeged”
Reviewed November 29, 2012

Impressive building, over a 100 years old. Just a site, not active.Thru 1944 tens of thousands of Jews lived in Szeged untill sent to the death camps with the eager assistance of the Hungarian Nazis.
Now-a-days less than 200 Jews in Szeged.

“Insight to early 20th century architecture”
Reviewed August 9, 2012

the interesting thing about this synagogue is that it incorporates distinctly Hungarian features in its interior design. Some would mistake it for Moorish influence when in fact it is Central Asian influences that are not to be found in the large Synagogues in Poland, Romania and the Czech Republic. This suggests that Hungarian Jewry at the turn of the century attempted to create a more local atmosphere by incorporating uniquely Magyar influences in their house of worship.

“Beautiful!”

Neou classicist style Synagogue, well hidden behind old trees. Lot of cats have found home in the yeard. It is not hard to find, just follow the signs and enjoy in peace on the bancehes.

“The synagogue was amazing - incredibly...”
Reviewed August 13, 2010

The synagogue was amazing - incredibly ornate, similar to what we are used to seeing in Catholicism, and this was definitely centered around Judaism. It was a delight to see something so different and so beautiful. The people were a delight as well - I was with my Hungarian mother, and they were closing for lunch. However, when they heard that this was the only day we could come, and we could not return later, they immediately allowed us to enter.
