This place is so central, most things are just a walk away. It's clean, but in somewhat Hungarian fashion, lacking. The check in clerk was lacking in manners. The bathroom was lacking soap. Helpful advice was lacking. Room was clean and fine, albeit small. Breakfast was terrific, and included in the cost of the room.

We paid for a standard room but got stuck in an economy room. Brown smears on the towels, large stains on the chairs and curtains and a tap to flush the toilet instead of a cistern. The hotel was very empty and I understand why. Go there if you are looking for Soviet-style former grandeur.

The reviews had prepared me to expect small rooms. I'm fine with that. Yes, they are small by modern standards, but what, it's gonna kill you not to have 2000 square feet to sleep in? Surroundings are drop dead elegant. Service is quite good. Architecture is high Art Nouveau in all its glorious excess. Unless you're gigantically overweight or plan to put three or four extra people in the room with you, there is no reason not to stay here and wallow in its fin de siècle elegance.

The art nouveau reception, restaurant, and the beautiful auditorium in the second floor, all present an elegant, well maintained (or well renovated) area, interesting Moorish motifs in the reception ceiling, coloured glass roofed stairway to the beautiful auditorium (I think I heard the information that Franz Liszt played there). Locaion is a big hit, as it is almost on the edge of the beautiful main town square. apparently well reputed hotel among locals. A drawback, and actually can be a contrast, is the small basic rooms. They are clean, small, lack luxuries of modern time hotels like bathroom toileteries, and comfy beds, but again, nothing compromising cleanliness. Free wireless internet are available only in the lobby area. Breakfast reasonable.

The hotel is at 100 meters from the central square of Pécs, in the middle of the no-cars area. With respect to the negative remarks about it that I have read here, it must have been restored quite recently, since I could detect no worn-out details. The hall, restaurant, common spaces and the so-called Dancing Hall have a great liberty décor, very well preserved. Breakfast Buffet is an ample one, with a wide choice of standard, international, breakfast items, and traditional Hungarian ones. Rooms are not very big, but they are comfortable enough, reasonably well equipped (coffee and tea facilities, refrigerator, air-conditioning, TV, wireless Internet connection). For the category and the offer, prices are acceptable, and the central position is a plus that cannot be forgotten. I really enjoyed my stay here.

Wonderful art nouveau foyer giving the right ambience, we just stayed the night, but our room, although basic, was fine, the customer service and breakfast buffet were excellent and the hotel central and ideal to explore the city. Overall very impressed.

The Palatinus is one of those old line European hotel you expect great things of only to find it hasn't been maintained or upgraded to met today's expectation and standards for it's price range. The lobby is intriguing, but the rooms are both small and worn and badly in need of a basic redoing (paint especially). It's location remains it's outstanding attribute located as it in on Kiraly which places it a 100 meters from the center point of Pecs and along it's main tourist and shopping artery (which is a pedestrian mall). Pecs is an old city and has much to offer for historic and museum enjoyment.
