“Yes, first impressions do really count!”
Reviewed April 16, 2014

It is a wonderful feeling to be able to give a glowing recommendation to a 4* hotel that actually lives up to its star rating!
From the moment we saw the hotel, we knew that this was going to be something special and our instinctives proved to be right.
The private owners of this hotel, built three years ago, have spared no expense in their choice of design, decor, fittings and furniture. Top quality materials and fabrics abound through every room and the marble staircases give a feeling of warmth and luxury.
Add to this the high standard of cleanliness throughout the hotel, the beatiful vistas from most of the rooms and the communal areas, when added together they emphasise the "feel-good" factor that is often ignored by other hotels.
Although the wellness facilities were slighty on the small side than I would have wished, e.g. swimming pool and fitness room, it seemed to be more than adequate for the guests at the hotel.
The buffet-style restaurant served traditional Hungarian food to a high standard - perhaps it would be have nice to have another non-Hungarian dish as a option - the drinks were reasonably priced and the staff very helpful.
My report would not be complete without mentioning one of two areas where some improvement could be of benefit to the guests.
1. Free dressing gowns are provided but there are no hooks on the bathroom door on which to hang them.
2. Although the room was spotlessly clean, the room cleaners did not change used drinking glasses, disappointing when everything else was so good.
Finally, I would recommend this hotel for a stay of 2-4 days for couples and parents with young families. Older children may find the lack of recreational facilities more problematic.
A fine hotel of which Hungary can feel proud.

Not too promising that they do not even know their own name - even on their FB page it is Calimbra on the Photo ID and Calimera in the description....
The building looks nothing special from outside, but better inside. The outdoor pool and the garden/bbq area was under maintenance. The wellness area, especially the pool water is pretty cold, but the sauna facilities are good. Dinner was OK, but breakfast is something no longer served even in *** hotels: no selection, some dried low-end white bread. At 9:30 almost everything was gone: no orange juice, milk, cheese, scrambled eggs, etc. Waiters should be asked to refill, or you will never get it.
Our nightmare started around 1:00 a.m., when I woke up as I heard the repetitive sound of dripping water. There was a heavy rainstorm overnight and it was actually dripping on our bed, near our feet, the bed was already soaking wet. Strangely enough it was not on the top floor, but one level below...
Then another guest left for the reception from the room next door.
I asked for an alternate room, what we got, but it smelled stuffy. The room's terrace was under construction, water was dripping outside, but the sound was already familiar to us.
I have heard that other guests had similar problems but they were more relaxed and went to the spa, hoping that something gets fixed in a few hours.
In the morning no one called or offered anything. When visited the reception after the breakfast, they asked for a few hours more to do something, but we rejected it.
Then they offered a *** hotel for the remaining days and a 10% discount for the first night (????).
We left for another hotel not supervised by this management.

We stayed here for 4 days with my boyfriend and we had a fantastic time. The room was clean, the stuff was polite and the spa was well designed and spacious. There are 3 types of saunas, so everybody can find the best one for him/herself. The Jacuzzi had and interesting smell - it was like menthol - and there was little foam on it and the temperature was also excellent for relaxing. If you choose this hotel you should also try the breakfast because they offer a big variety of food. Our room was really big compared to other hotel rooms and spotless. The bed was huge and really confortable. Our only problem was with the heating system. The maximum temperature was 21°C which wasn't warm enough for us but they gave us a small electronic heater and the problem was solved shortly. We had a really nice time here, so if you want to have a relaxing holiday with excellent service, you should come to Calimera Hotel.

We checked in for one night since we visited the cave baths down the road about 200 meters, the hotel is brand new and very clean.
Upon entering the receptionist was on the telephone and did not even acknowledge our assistance, if it were not for the masseur walking by who greeted us and gave us the sheets to fill in, who knows how long we woudl have stood there.
We checked in and went to the room, it was clean, orderly and free WLAN was available, we were hungry but had to wait for 6PM for dinner, where we had a choice of a buffet for 4000 HUF per person or Ala Carte.
The buffet was excellent, as a meat lover, there was everything to include ribs, simply delicious!
Our servers were in great spirits despite we were the only one there for the first 30 minutes. Very helpful and one even spoke to us, which was the first time in the hotel where anyone took any interest.
The mini bar was empty, they said since they are so new they did not stock them yet, but had nothing to stock when we asked them to.
The next morning we went to the wellness area, a great let down, the Infra Red Sauna was not working, the steam bath was not on and the jacuzzi was not turned on, the pool is to small to swim and the fitness room is, well a small room, very small.
We left and got ready for breakfast, again, a great buffet. When we went to mention our room, the staff said "we know who you are" and escorted us into the dinning room. Not sure what that meant but they spoke English for the first time so I guess they heard I was an American, not sure but it was good to feel at home and be served with such attention.
All in all a great stay, great staff (except for the receptionists) upon checking out the desk manager or hotel manager and two others receptionists were speaking and I had to insist they stop so we could check out, we seemed to bother them.
The location is perfect for the cave baths and very comfortable.

Room Tip: Does not really matter since the town dies after 6PM, it is so quiet there, if your wish to have the...

we spent 2nights in this hotel .We booked last minute and everything seems to be ok but after one day i can say ;the room was well furniture and clean, the wi-fi did work, the half-board good but not excellent(a little poor and the desert looked good but not tasty)for a 4 star hotel. The spa area looked nice from outside, with inside pool (cold water)and everything looked not very relaxing. For me the spa means a warm place where i can relax myself, but this one was everything except that nice ,warm place.(in any event we got a nice flu).So finally, quite good but do not choose it for the spa area.

We booked rooms from the US months in advance on account of an event we needed to attend in the area. Upon arrival, we learned that the wifi did not work in our rooms. We are business people and need wifi for our work. They offered a cable Internet connection but our laptops are newer and have no Ethernet connection. They clearly advertised wifi Internet and could not provide it. On top of which, the beds were mattresses on a wooden platform and were beyond hard. One could not sleep on those beds restfully unless one is accustomed to sleeping on the floor. One our rooms also smelled foul as did the restaurant. NWhen we complained about the internet situation they insisted we would be charged a full night regardless. We had to get out of that nightmare, so we left. Charge us if you will. We want a real hotel with accommodating and pleasant staff! Good bye, Calimera "Wellness" Hotel.
