“Nice wellness hotel, well managed”
Reviewed February 16, 2012

The Hotel Flora in Eger is a very nice and well-managed 3* hotel with an excellent thermal and wellness section. The hotel is near the centre of Eger, a five minute walk away, one of the most beautiful and historic small towns in Hungary. The rooms are clean, modern and well-furnished, mostly with balconies. There are no individual toiletries provided, and what is more unusual, there is no hair dryer in the rooms, although one can borrow one from the reception. Another small niggle: the rooms have extremely small, old-fashioned TV sets which are not really enjoyable to watch - time for an update here! A very positive feature is that there is free internet everywhere in the hotel. The staff are efficient and courteous. As part of your stay, you can also directly access without charge, through a short garden walk the large municipal thermal baths next door. The hotel also has its own, in-house wellness section with 32C and 36C thermal baths, steam rooms, and saunas. One problem here is that there is little supervision, and children are often a nuisance in these areas, annoying the guests, splashing and jumping in the small pools making quiet relaxation impossible. If the parents do not know how to stop their children from annoying others, the hotel should do more to ensure that guests can enjoy the quiet relaxation they seek. Rooms come with breakfast, or with half-pension. the food was uniformly excellent, with great variety and very good quality. Overall, this is a very pleasant hotel for a weekend getaway, a longer vacation or even a conference.

Room Tip: Rooms on the top floor have been renovated, but are a bit smaller and have no balconies. All other r...

Stayed for four nights while in Eger for work. I really enjoyed the hotel. It is well located close to the centre of town, pedestrian access is through a small park. Eger itself is a very pleasant town.
The hotel itself is fine. Public rooms are spacious and the breakfasts are not bad although some more fruit would be good. The staff were very helpful. The bedrooms are comfortable with mini-bar and wi-fi access. Some visitors may not care for the lack of English language stations on the room TV.
The real plus is the outdoors pool (entrance free on payment of refundable deposit) and pools, sauna and steam room in the wellness centre. It was a lovely way to relax after work each day. Lying in the 38oC water of the outdoor pool surrounded by tall trees while breathing in the 2oC fresh air was particularly invigorating.
If returning to Eger for work, or indeed with my family, I would stay here.

This was our third trip to this hotel. First time in September 2009, then October 2010 May of 2011 and we are going back again at the end of September 2011. I am going with my sister. We are both Senior citizens and this is the perfect place for us. We are simple people and to us everything is just right. Also the fact that we can come and go to the pools as often as we want to means a lot too.

I enjoyed staying at this hotel.
The service was excellent, the food was superb.
All staff members were poilite and courteous. The variosity of the dinner was really wonderful.
The room we were staying at was on the top floor and very comfortable.
I would suggest you to try at least one and have fun at the pools and enjoy the massages.

We traveled with a small group of 8 people. We traveled to 6 countries and stayed in 8 cities. This was the worst of the hotels. The shower was broken, no hair dryer, Sanka coffee, "yuk" breakfast, room smelled musty, and very hard mattress. While the employees were nice and helpful, and the hotel was close to the center of town, there were too many negatives.

Checked into the triple room I booked months ago, to a room overlooking the parking lot and trash cans. The third bed was a hard chair thing that wouldn't really work for an adult, but a 7-year-old only mentioned that it was harder than the other beds. The toilet was in a separate room from the shower and sink, and was never clean. The WC room smelled of urine the whole time we were there. Paint was peeling, curtains didn't fit, the only English channel on TV didn't work anymore, and the shower leaked out of the back of the fixture, leaving only a trickle to actually wash with. I mentioned all of these problems, but they were never taken care of. The whole grounds are run-down; there's a roof garden that is so overgrown, there's virtually nowhere to go out there! I would rate the hotel even lower, but there are a few nice things: 1. the hotel's own wellness facility is beautiful. There's a nice "fun" pool with bubbles, sprays, jets, etc; a "children's" pool mostly used by the octogenarians because it's warmer, but it is large and has nice foot-jets, a wonderful lay-down bubble pool, 3 different saunas, an aromatherapy chamber and a plunge pool. When you need to dry off from all the soggy fun, there are heated tile tables, for lack of a better word, to lay on. Secondly, the hotel has its own access to the public thermal bath, which you can take advantage of as much as you like with a deposit for a bracelet (which is literally kept in an envelope separate from the register, it is really easy to get back!) The thermal is fabulous, really fun for the whole family, and having the hotel right there (and the extra towel to use) is fabulous. The breakfast was plentiful, though heavily Germanic, and after a week of living with an Hungarian family, we were surprised at the focus on hot dogs and wholemeal breads. Overall, with a 5-minute walk to the center, I probably wouldn't stay again, but I'm not sure if we'd find a more appealing option for a family with small children.

Picked this hotel for a one night stop in Eger because of the open air pool. But on arriving at just before 6.00pm on a gloriously hot day we were told the pool shuts at 6.00pm! Very dissapointing as a couple of hours in the sun after a long drive was just what the doctor ordered.
Hotel is adequate at best. Rooms OK - not dirty or shabby but, to repeat what was said on an earlier review, the security on the windows led a lot to be desired. Made you think twice about leaving a lap top in the room.
Having eaten here on a previous visit we decided to eat out in the town as the restaurant was decidedly average fare. Plenty of decent and very reasonable restaurants in the town about 10 mins. walk away.
Breakfast was dissapointing - not a great deal of selection and the scramble eggs could have been used to sole your shoes. Not a great deal of fruit or cereals on offer.
Hotel is seems popular with elderly tourists taking advantage of the spa and thermal facilities. So do not be surprised to see people wandering around reception and the bar in flip flops and a robe.
