The place was a good place to stay at, although the restaurant seems to have a good cook, but the serving was too slow. This can be improved and is often due to organization. The staff was helpful to guide to the secure parking.

Our group of 14 arrived late afternoon and were greeted by the friendly manager and staff. The room was clean and had a view over the town square. The street life outside the hotel adds to the caracter. I highly recommend this hotel and hope to return in future to stay longer.

I heartily recommend Senator Haz. The staff was extraordinarily accommodating to our party of five, finding four of us an "apartment" in the pensione in the back - very quiet, very private. Our van found space in the locked parking lot behind the hotel. Andras cooks a mean ham and eggs, and all the bread and rolls were fresh every morning. I had to leave by 6am, and knocked on the door - coffee was ready for my ride to Budapest airport, which was arranged for me with only two days notice. The wine shop right across the street is well stocked, and we were provided a bucket of ice (with linen napkin) to chill our Balatan bottles of dry white wonderfulness.

Room Tip: For more modern rooms, ask for the pensione in the back, off the main cobblestone square.

I am NOT get used to this quality of staff in Hungary. They are extremely friendly. It was my first visit and we stayed only one night. And they were as friendly as knowing each other for years.
If you drive with the help of a GPS, enter "Dr.Hibay Károly utca". This street leads you to the hotel entrance. The receptionist showed me the parking place (approx. 150 m from the hotel's main entrance). Room 15 is a good one, if you do not go for watching TV. The TV is rather old. It is a color TV. That means red or green colors, but not at the same time :-) Also the volume setting is nearly impossible. They should change it...
We had a nice view to the Dobo square.
The breakfast is ok. The scrambled eggs is really good. And the rolls also. Coffee, tea, milk, orange juice are also available.
If you like some K.u.K. feeling, you can find it. The lobby and the corridors are full with old objects from Singer sewing-maching legs to old type writer.
The castle, the bishop's palace, churches, the minaret and walking streets are around the hotel in some minutes walking distance.

Room Tip: Room 15 is a good one if you do not go for watching TV.

My mom and I stayed at this hotel on August 17, 2012. I made the reservation months prior and was confirmed for a double in the hotel. Upon arrival, we were told that they had a group who was staying an additional night and they would need to move us to another hotel up the street ( I think it was called the Dobo Inn). We were not in agreement, but my mom said we would look at the other place and see if it was ok. When we walked in the lobby of the other hotel, there was a sign posted at the front desk showing that the rates were less than what we paid for the room at the Senator House. They took us upstairs to a room which had the bathroom outside in the hallway. We refused this room and my mom got a little heated with the manager (she speaks Hungarian since she was born there). After awhile, the manager agreed to show us 2 single rooms which suddenly became available inside the hotel. We took these and everything else was ok at the hotel. The breakfast was good, the place was nice, etc. The next morning at breakfast, we met another mom/daughter team staying at the hotel. She told us that the same thing happened to her. She apparently booked the 2 single rooms, but was told they were not available and they were given the room at the other inn with the bathroom outside. It seemed that they gave away her rooms to us. The only thing I can guess with this bait and switch is that they overbook their rooms and then make an arrangement with other inns to send them the overflow. If you read through earlier reviews, this seems to happen alot at this hotel. This is the only thing negative I can say about this hotel; however, no one likes to be a victim of the this type of bait and switch tactic. Just beware that this may happen to you too.

We stayed here as a group of ten from 18/11/12 until 21/11/12. The restaurant was superb - such a pity that we only managed one evening meal here. The rooms are varied in size but all were comfortable and clean. The staff (including the owner) were always polite, cheerful and helpful. Breakfast was good and the scrambled eggs very good - worth a try! This hotel is a perfect location for those wanting to explore Eger on foot. I came as part of a business group but hope to return with my family.

Room Tip: Room 16 on the first floor appeared to be the biggest.

We chose this hotel based on Tripadvisor reviews and its location in the center of town. We took a bus to Eger and the bus station is also in the center of town, so we could walk to the hotel.
The main old hotel and decor are old and charming. The attached restaurant is similarly decorated, although there are many very modern paintings in the restaurant. There must be an artist in the family.
We had room #2 in the new section of the hotel, also referred to as Patria Panzio. The new section is a small courtyard and a street away from the old, main hotel, less than a minute walk. The room had a separate living area from the bedroom. The rooms were clean, bright, modern, offered many little conveniences such as wine glasses and opener, lots of shelving, plenty of lighting, a safe and a small refrigerator. The little courtyard of this new section is swept clean each day and flower boxes adorn each balcony and entrance. We had a view of the castle walls from our room.
I dinged the place a little on sleep quality because the fold-out sofa's mattress was very, very firm.
Breakfast was included with the room. The offering was everything you would need, but nothing special. There were scrambled eggs, 3 types of cold cereal, meat, cheese, bread, one type of sweet roll.
I highly recommend this hotel, the restaurant and the town of Eger.
