We spent a weekend in a Spa next Eger so it seemed obvious to visit the Castle. It took us a lot effort to find the right way to the entrance: the signs misdirected us. When we finally find our way it turned out that the whole downtown was under construction caused a severe pain in the ankle. Yet we thought it worth the visit. At the gates you have to pay entrance fee which is fine if most of the exhibitions are admissable. The fee was 1100 HUF each and you can visit the gothic inner castle for this price. All the other attractions are aviable for extra fee and we skiped them. The whole castle was rundown and under construction. The inner site is maintenceless and does not worth it.

This city is famous from this castle where history changed back in 1552 when a Hungarian Istvan Dodo defended the city from the Turks. There is a book written about it.Several museum located at the spot with remarkable pictures and clothes from the Ottoman's. There is a jail/torture room which is very dramatic with they collection.Great view to the city from this place.

Excellent location, impressive castle, beautiful view. It's true it's been under renovation for some time (and presumably will be for another year or so) but still worth a visit. It's not unsafe but, due to lack of proper information, visitors better watch their steps. Walls, old armory, building structures are pretty interesting. The museum will be opening soon (we hope). And, loosely connected to the castle, Eger is one of the best vine region of the World. Try one of the excellent restaurants and don't forget a couple of glasses of vine with your dinner. Even the castle will look much more impressive ... :)

For me, the best part were the catacomb-like passages along the walls of the castle. You need to take a tour to see. I enjoyed them very much.

Run down, renovations in progress, not much to see. We only bought a 'walking ticket' (no access to exhibitions), but this was not worth the price. The place has a 3D cinema, showing a short film on Eger castle - and dinosaurs...
