Description: Our Restaurant, the Macok Bistro and Wine Bar is a jaunty and youthful restaurant where international dishes are presented in local style with wine specialties which can be found only in the cellars of enthusiastic collectors. Our Restaurant is located in the downtown, exactly at the Castle’s entrance. By sitting in our terrace you can take part in the living history of Eger. We are making foods with the biggest attention and care, and serving the courses in this way to the Guests. We like to call up the traditional, old-fashioned tastes, however we rethink the corses’ appearance. The commodities are from the area’s small producers, who make and breed us the best materials, for example the trout from Szilvásvárad, cheese specialties from the Bükk, homemade noodles, etc. Our goals have reached with reanimating the life in the city and creating a lovable place where generations may enjoy the foods and wines like they are at home, but a business meeting can going by in an informal atmosphere. The restaurant waits children with separate menu and toys, thus parents can relax. Our cozy patio is a famous meeting place for groups of friends and turists also. The patio fill with life when we organize gastronomical occasions. Everybody who take part in this market atmosphere events get unforgettable experiences with tasty wines and special foods. The Hotel (which belongs to the Restaurant) is ideal for travellers who can’t miss tasty wines and it is also perfect for meetings and trainings. We are welcome those who would like to eat delicious foods at Eger, and after that talking even with us on the couch streched out while sipping some wine. I was here for a business lunch, but we had only a short time. The place was nearly full, but we got our food very fast. The service was great. The food was very delicious. We tried the four dishes menu. It was one of the best experience in the last few years. Anyway, I recommend for everyone to try it.

Probably the best restaurant in Eger, just very diverse from typical places offering you fatty, huge plates. Quality of food is excellent: we chose goose liver, lamb and duck: everything was fresh and soft. Tasty local wine, just a bit strange that waiters passes by at every deciliter and doesn't put to your table the whole wine order. However, the bill is confusing: they states tip is already added but bill is still splitted and contains a tip of 10% which then alltogether is the sum written on the menu.
Good value for money, we'll definitely return.

We vizited this restaurant basing exceptionally on Tripadvisor`s high ratings. And how we regretted! On the 5-th minute of "service" waiter murmured that he had only two hands (!!!) and that he was working there only for help his friend . By the way the restaurant was half empty ,though it was July evening. And to tell truth we are not very demanding clients... Quality of food was averige. Portions on huge plates were ridiculously small. There a lot of excellent restaurants in Eger - spend your money and time somewhere else.

The name of the restaurant has changed to Macok Bisztró (with Macok meaning a potato pancake in the local dialect, which the menu is built around). Lunch menu is served until 3pm and however we had just arrived 2 minutes before that time, the staff was very accommodating. We have chosen mushroom salad and aubergine paste from the tapas menu as starters, each of them being served with a macok pancake. Our waiter has recommended us to get a basket of home-made baguette as well, and we didn't regret to do so. Service was very high standard with an informal touch, and regular check-backs have been made as well which is quite rare in Hungary. The mains were also good, although I haven't expected the deer ragout to be made of minced meat. For dessert we have shared a grape strudel with tokaji sauce, the dough of which was a bit disappointing. We've drank 30cls each of the house red Bolyki Indiánnyár, which very reasonably priced as well. Our bill with two starters, two mains, one dessert, wine, water and coffees came to 7.700 Ft including service which means very good value for money.
