I have been a few times to Eger and every time I visit this "hunters" restaurant. The atmosphere is a bit weird (they could do something about the light), with all the hunting stuff around, but the quality of the food, the wine and the service is really very good. The restaurant offers Hungarian dishes of good prices. Try the game meat, together with a bottle of Egri Bikavér (Hungarian famous "Bulls' Blood" wine).
Last time there was live gipsy music which gives it a very pleasant atmosphere. Have experience with good piano players as well.

A wide range of traditional Hungarian dishes majoring on game and this theme was refelcted in the decor. Our meal was spoilt somewhat by a lack of of other diners (it was August so you would expect it to be busy) and one of the few tables that was occupied consisted of three smokers who chain smoked and drank (without eating) all evening. We enjoyed the food we had although it was on the rich side. The service was friendly and attentive. If I visited again I would skip desert. Definitely a cut above the standard places in Eger.

If you are a vegan, this place is not for you! Every kind of wild game as well as chops and steaks are available and all are finely done. Even the pig trotter my mother once mistakely ordered was cooked to perfection. (She still claims she meant to order it!) Sides are more than ample and delicious. The wine stewards put on quite a show with the vast array of bottled and house wines. No one in all the years we have gone there has made it to dessert, so I can't comment on them. Truely the only downside is that there are some rather steep stairs upon entry. Other than that, enjoy!

This is my joint favourite restaurant in Eger, sitting just on the edge of the town centre. It is not easy to spot from the road but it doesn't need to be, it's reputation means that people who want find it will.
The first thing that hits you as you enter is the decor. It is a hunting themed restaurant with dozens of trophies mounted on the walls. There are even dining chairs made from antlers and covered in sheepskins.
The service is excellent. You are met as you enter and your coats taken from you and hung in the cloak room then you are shown to a table of your choice. If you require a little privacy there is a small room which seats around 8 people just off the main reastaurant at the end of the bar. The waiters are efficient and polite, the down side is that they don't speak a great deal of English but the menu is written in Hungarian, English and German so ordering isn't a problem. There is a good choice of food available with a tendency towards wild game. My personal favourite is the wild piglet soup to start and saddle of venison for my main course ( I can't usually manage a dessert). There is also a good wine list and an extensive choice of palinkas (Hungarian spirit). When your food arrives you won't be disappointed with the presentation or quantity.
In the evenings there is a pianist to add to the atmosphere.
Overall, the Feher Szarvas offers excellent value for money. It offers something different in a small town with a great deal of competition.
