This is to commemorate the war heroes of Independence against the Austrian rulers. The architecture of the sculpture is beautiful.

When you visit the iconic Mathias Church (and Fisherman Bastion) from the top point of Buda Castle Funicular, this statue is at the mid distance between these two points, approx 300m walking distance only, built by Zala Gyorgy in 1893 to celebrate anonymous fighters who died in the Independence War in 1848, with the banner reads "Freedom or Death". It is a good and impressive statue although not really spectacular, and free.

Large statue location in the castle district not too far from Matthias church and the Fisherman's Bastion. It was erected to commemorate the war the mid 1800's against the Austrians. Situated on a green in the fork between two roads it stands well and is worth a visit.

It is a significant statue in terms of remembering the heroes of war who fought for freedom but it is an unimpressive statue to be honest and not one I would go out and see, it is worth visiting if in the Cathedral area, but if you miss...no worries

The Castle district is full of old buildings and beautiful monuments. This one is amongst them.An angel, with a laurel wreath in her hand, is supporting a collapsing warrior, who is still holding a sword in one of his hand and a flag in the other one. The statue was erected for the memory of the fallen soldiers of the 1848 freedom fight.
