“Lovely place for a good cuppa”

Just a lovely place to sit in while waiting for the guides to come for the free walking tour. Great pastries, coffees, and great staff. The inside is so beautiful. Nice place in the sun...

“Value is a relative term”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 5, 2013

If you are traveller on the budget stay away , but if you are for example from Australia where you are used to pay extraorbitant money for so called “cakes “, this place is reasonably priced even it is touristy.
We have ordered “palaczinta” walnut filled pancake with chocolate dressing and cumquat jam and ice cream. My order was from Bistro menu, Foie gras on toasted brioche with crab apples and chilli plum jam, plus local beer and mineral water. Bill came around 30 Euros with tip.
Booth dishes were beautifully presented, fresh and very tasty.
Australian equivalent would be at least double the price without the taste and atmosphere.

“Best icecream sundaes in Europe”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 2, 2013

In the heart of the shopping district this place is an historic marvel, ideal for people watching and enjoying the most sumptuous ice-cream cups/sundaes you will ever enjoy. Certainly not cheap, but worth every delicious, mouthwatering and calorie laden mouthful. Beware - do not order any if you intend to have lunch as well. They replace a full meal! Enjoy! Our whole family did.

“Fantastic bit of Hungarian culture.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 1, 2013

Located on Vörösmarty Square, on the edge of the Váci útca in the tourist area of Budapest, the Café Gerbeaud is a famous coffee and dessert restaurant. An architectural gem, the interior of this café has been designed in marble, exotic woods, crystal, and bronze. This coffee house is a gorgeous place to visit, and a very expensive place to eat. It's a famous Budapest destination that you won’t want to miss!

Founded in 1858, this high-class café has been an iconic Budapest place-to-be-seen ever since its inception. Although damage during WWII took a toll on the establishment, the renovation in1997 rejuvenated the building. At that time, it received fine wood paneling, brocade wall covers, and marble tables. Now, it is a wonderful trip into high-society that most of us only dream of.

To be sure, the coffees and desserts are very expensive. However, save a bit of your travel money in order to spend an hour or two here. Our family group of three men and two women found this restaurant to be a wonderful place to rest our weary feet on a busy day of sight seeing. Although we found the prices very expensive compared to normal Budapest prices, we didn’t complain, and we thoroughly enjoyed the chance to partake in an afternoon of Hungarian culture.

The servers spoke English, so ordering was not a problem.

Each of us tried a different dessert plate so we could share the delicacies. Everything was scrumptious, and looked like ready-to-eat art on a plate. Between us, we also ordered cappuccino, espresso coffee, decaf espresso, and coffee with liquor. All were delicious and hot.

This restaurant can certainly set you back with your tourist budget. But, it’s well worth a visit!
