We couldn't take it anymore that you can only buy these producer goods on Sundays, so we made the essence available for the weekdays too. “Trying too hard?”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 29, 2014

This place is very different and a great example of what I expected a ruin bar to be. However having visited a couple of other ruin bars, I felt this one was just too over the top and trying too hard to be different. It was also full of tourists rather than any locals and the quality of the food and wine was really poor, that said its worth popping in for a drink if your passing to see what all the hype is about.

“Awesome night!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 27, 2014 via mobile

Visited with my husband and 2 friends on a weekend in Budapest, it was awesome! Never been to any bar like this, great location, completely crazy deco and cheap but tasty drinks. Clean toilets, friendly atmosphere, a great experience that everyone should try - even if you just go in for a look around!

“HAHA what a quirky place”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 26, 2014

Could not believe our eyes when we walked in to this HUGE place, it consist probably of three old buildings with equal amount of floors and a bar in every corner, even an ATM machine inside the place! very very original and definately worth the visit, however we still did not enjoy the local draught lager as it is too sweet, so we did not stay very long, but definately visit this place!

“Can't work this place out”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 26, 2014

Szimpla Kert is either still managing to lead the way in lo-fi kitsch, off the hook drinking experiences, or a bit of a cliché.

Sure its enjoyable, but sometimes old tat is just old tat. Although we went there twice and I've no reason to dislike the place, I couldn't seem to fall in love with it as some other reviewers have.

That said, very easy going, a true experience to visit and we also enjoyed good service and a fairly good selection of drinks. I didn't manage to find the grumpy bar tenders who feature in other reviews. The ones who served me were all helpful and friendly.

Its certainly a good bar, but I can't call it the best. Although you should give it a try.

“A wonderful, unique bar.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 12, 2014

The original Budapest ruin pub. The drinks and such are good and reasonably priced, but the reason to go here is for the atmosphere. Secondhand furniture, graffiti and notes all over the walls (fun to sit and see where all the travelers have come from!), really odd decorations. We went twice early in the evening (in the 6pm to 9pm range) on weeknights and loved it - found a side room without many other folks in it and soaked it in. Make sure to walk around and explore a bit before you leave. One of our tour guides said it was the "third best bar in the world," and I believe it - have never been to a place like this, and I'm surprised there aren't imitators around the world.

Also, when we were there the music was not very loud, which was nice - we could actually converse!
