Description: Castro Bistro is one of the legendary community places in Budapest. During the day it's a nice cosy place serving delicious daily menu - in the evenings it turns into a spontaneous and vibrant party. We have a wide selection of palinka and the short drinks will be measured the old fashioned way, 3 cl and 5 cl. A variety of international homemade dishes is on the menu. The kitchen is open until 11pm, but soups can be ordered until 11:30 pm. The daily menu is available from 12:00 am. We open exhibitions on a monthly basis and our little stage is available for live concerts. We have baby chair and a changing table. Bikers would find a pump and other tools. Bowls are ready to serve our furry friends when they are thirsty.Summertime we open a big sunny terrace. The place is air conditioned. Free Wi-Fi is available for our guests.

“Good food good price”
Reviewed February 13, 2013

Restaurant might not be up to some travellers standard in terms of decor a little bit grundgy. But it had a great atmosphere and food was lovely, drink was cheap and staff were friendly- a little off the tourist track so they are not ripping you off and you get a nice tasty meal.

“Hidden restaurant, good value for money and good portion”
Reviewed January 16, 2013 via mobile

Normally, my boyfriend and I wanted to eat in another restaurant. But, sometimes fate can change things at the last minute. We found out this restaurant by Internet. It was closed to our appartment, so we thought "Why not?".
It was a good surprise. The goulash soup accompanied with a huge slide of bread was gorgeous. The roast chicken with red cabbage and sour cream was OK. It tastes nice. We got a Pepsi coke and a Dreher beer. In total, it was a good value for money and we got a good portion for each dish. The bill was about 12€ for 2 people.
In this place, there were tourist and locals as well (50/50). The next time, we will surely come back here if we have the opportunity to be in Budapest again.

We took a break at Castros, enjoying a simple but delicious meal at a very reasonable price. Nice place, relaxed atmosphere!

“Lazy afternoons in Budapest”
Reviewed December 17, 2012

In the heart of the city, it's a great place to meet people. Not to chic but that just makes the place even more inviting. The staff is friendly and you can use free wifi, so you can easily spend a few hours here. Food is also a plus, but the place tends to be crowded at the evenings, so it's always a good idea to reserve, if you want to arrive with friends.

Excellent food with local specialties. I really recommend you to try "Pörkölt". Big portions and reasonable price.
