This restaurant, which was part of of our hotel, was just what it said on the tin. Interesting traditional Hungarian style food. There specials were much more varied that the dishes on the menu. One point of warning though, is that we were enticed by this long list but there were no prices quoted until we asked. So just be careful with your budget before ordering. However the food and service were both fine and having asked there were no surprises when the bill arrive...

Dear I H,

Thank you very much for your review, however - without trying questoning your experience - we do not really believe what you are stating in it. Both on the menu card and the blackboard, even on the wine list you can see the prices at any time. Please tell us what exactly happened so we can improve our service.

Best regards,

Bock Bistro Team

Attached to the Corinthian Hotel in the heart of downtown Pest. The food was very good and the service outstanding. During the summer months, outside dining is available. Great for people watching. I loved this restaurant.

We ate here our first night in Budapest and in hindsight I wish we had returned at least once, as this turned out to be our favorite restaurant in the city. Everything about the ambience, service, and food was exactly what we wanted in terms of being local and authentic.

The appetizer sampler consisting of various cured meats, cheeses, paprika, and pate was so delicious, as was the cabbage stuffed with catfish and the paprika stuffed with rice and herbs.

The mains were all great too, especially the chicken paprikash, the mangalitsa pork and white gourd stew, the rabbit, and the veal with gnocchi. Our waiter recommended a wonderful Hungarian wine (Thummerer).

Overall excellent!

This restaurant is especially recommended if you like vines: they have a very wide variety of vines (Hungarian ones). It's worth to check the weekly specialities (ask the waiter to translate it for you as this is written in Hungarian). The staff is very friendly and helpful. They offer traditional Hungarian courses, sometimes with innovative shape and taste.
If you like surprises, check the "bizarre ice cram selection", with portions made from hungarian paprika, tobacco and bacon (3 separately). It's really bizarre...
As the restaurant is nearly always full, it's highly recommended to have a reservation (at least 4-6 days in advance)

Everything we tasted was perfectly cooked. The variety was excellent. We were delighted to find goat featured on the specials of the day- horseradish and goat neck soup, goat livers, roasted goat shoulder- no wastage! Good service too. Highly recommended.
