First of all, reservations are needed, we had made reservations via email on a Tuesday for a Friday evening at 7pm in January, and they kept refusing clients all evening. The food is very good and the portions quite big for such a restaurant. The place was quiet til 8:00pm, when most people arrived and the accordeon player kicked in. Service is good but a little slow. We loved the wine and decided to buy a few bottles of Tokay from their vineyards for 6 Euros each, their bottles are discounted when you buy through the restaurant. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Budapest, of course it is pricier than most restaurants there but for Eurozone travellers, this is Heaven.

We were 3, ordered 1 starter to share, 3 main dishes, 2 glasses of wine, 3 desserts and 2 coffees: price was 25,000 Forints with service included = 84 Euros!

Enjoy!!!

My partner had goulash and it only had one tiny little bit of chicken and vegetables that had not been topped and tailed. The waiter was pushy for upselling and ignored us the rest of the time. Sometimes he was downright rude. I asked for some chopped up carrot with my cheese board because I can't eat biscuits and he just said 'NO' without asking the kitchen, when we eventually got him to ask the kitchen they said yes immidiatly. ( I mean it's only carrot after all) The bizarre ice cream dessert was kind of cool.

We came to Budapest last winter for the first time, and one of the best parts of our trip was the discovery of Bock Bistro. In returning this year, it was literally our first stop. Not only is the food exceptional, but we also look forward and enjoy very much the service provided, in particular, by, our waiter, Sandor. For all of our meals, which so far this year, we have had two in two consecutive days, we allowed him to make suggestions for us, for both the food and the wine, and in every case, they have been amazing. By doing this we enjoyed a variety of dishes that we might not have chosen on our own, including the Goose Liver pate, the sour cream, potato & vegetable soup, a combination of roasted and fried pigeon, lamb cooked to perfection, duck confit, veal liver with garlic and served with an absolutely incredible dish of mashed potatoes and spinach. In addition, he paired everything with the perfect type of wine to complement every dish. And then there were the desserts, which were all wonderful. If you are in a hurry to rush through a meal, we suggest that you look elsewhere. The opportunity to savory every course and not be hurried is what makse it such a special dining experience. While it is not an inexpensive restaurant, the quality is worth every penny and you would not be able to find a comparable meal at the same prices in the States. Highly recommended and reservations for dinner are a must. P.S. oh, by the way, we have reservations ourselves for tomorrow night, and Sandor is already thinking of some new things for us to try....can't wait!!!

This bistro is packed at night, but you might be lucky and get a table. My partner and I were starving after suffering from a 2 hour delay at the airport. We were promptly seated, and our waiter patiently went through the menu and specials with us. The food was delicious, and the portions are very large. Service was prompt and efficient. For a quick and hearty lunch, I would definitely recommend this bistro.

We booked this restaurant due to the reviews on T.A. Certainly booking is a good idea as it was packed. The service was friendly and fast and the wine excellent. However, we found the food a wee bit disappointing. It may have been our choices, although we both chose from the night's specials. There was nothing wrong with it - just no 'wow' factor and, although we are both big eaters, we felt that quality and creativity were sacrificed for quantity.
