“Hearty dinner on arrival in Budapest”
Reviewed December 19, 2012

We had pre-booked a table after researching on TA where to eat and were not disappointed. We took tram #4 (or #6) to the doorstep and were then blown through the door curtain.

What a warm and welcoming place. Friendly staff without being over erffusive. Not unlike a Parisian restaurant with the buzz of conversation and even a live accordian player to give it the french or maybe its a hungarian, feel to to it.

Good choice of familiar and unfamiliar dishes on the english language menu which we had pre-read on their website.

Delicious food , well presented, generous portions and extremely appetising with some unusual dishes to try. We particularly liked the unusual trio of ice creams - one was paprika flavoured (what else in Hungary?)

Staff were most helpful and didn't rush us to order or to pay - I got the impression that the table was ours for the night.

Price was about £20 pp for food plus £15 pp for drinks - so not bad - 25000 Ft in total
Not cheap for Budapest I guess but far far better quality and value than what you get for that price in the UK

I have no hesitation in recommending Bock and would re-visit again when i am next in Budapest

“Excellent value for money”
Reviewed December 18, 2012

This restaurant is pricier than others that we visited in Budapest but the comparitive cost to a capital city meal in the UK is very low - we paid around £30 a head for starter and main course with wine and beer and a shot of Palinka to finish! More food than I could manage which is why we only did 2 and not 3 courses!

“Best Hungarian Gastronomic Experience - Not For Vegetarians”
Reviewed December 17, 2012

Hungarian cuisine uses traditionally meat a lot. Heavy meals are not rare and recently, many turned away from it in the healthy era. Lajos Biro, the chef of Bock has a great talent to revisit those traditional Hungarian meals and make them more digestible while not altering them significantly. It's a bit expensive but definitely worth it. Absolutely not a posh restaurant - it's called bistro ;)

You can have breakfast as well here - easier to get a table and will give you a decent start for your day. For dinner, you should book a few days in advance, to make sure you'll get a table. For breakfast, you can just walk in. And listen to the waiters ;)

“Excellent Hungarian Experience”
Reviewed December 16, 2012

I have tried a few Hungarian restaurants on previous trips to Budapest, however this one stands above them all. First off I would recommend booking in advance whilst we were there lots of people were turned away as it was fully booked, thus the atmosphere was great. The staff were very friendly, and the selection of both wine and food was great. It all came well presented and tasted great.

“Friendly and authentic.”
Reviewed December 13, 2012

Quality traditional fare in the friendliest surroundings.
Very heavy on the meat (to be expected) but the chef will do his best to accommodate you.
