We dined here twice, which is a good recommendation. First time round we had the seafood and meat tapas plates. Both pretty good, especially the chili squid, spicy chicken, squid in breadcrumbs and serrano ham with spinach. Creme brulee to finish was also very good. Second time around we enjoyed veal liver with pumpkin puree and lamb patty with lentils. The cooking is solid and tasty rather than spectacular. The service is friendly and efficient and the setting (which in winter looks nothing the picture on TripAdviser) is typically central European. Recommended for good value and wholesome cooking.

After a long hiatus, I find myself coming back here again and again and again. I've never had a bad meal here and always enjoy the atmosphere. The prices are very reasonable given the location and menu offerings. The wait staff is a tad arrogant but they get the job done. The decor is very French bistro-like. Decorated with old art deco and other period prints of saracens (moors), I always enjoy the richness of the fabrics, especially the peacock blue, round banquette. This place is classy, without being pretentious. You can come here for a leisurely breakfast on Sundays or for a nightcap after the theater, as it's located on what is known as 'Budapest's Broadway'.

Grandma style cooking is how my hotel receptionist described this restaurant .. and yes it had some great local dishes as well as Med style seafood etc . The atmosphere was great with a lot of locals eating there as well as tourists . My local contacts confirmed it was a great choice for the Old Town . I would probably describe it more as Bistro style with local cuisine on the menu. I enjoyed the seafood tapas platter to share and the Rabbit main course . Service was friendly but not overwhelming and the bill reasonable by international standards . The picture above is clearly a summer one - in winter the inside has a more bistro/cafe feel to it .

Always busy, which is what attracted us to it, this restaurant is tastefully and immaculately decorated in what I would describe as a French bistro theme. The service is speedy and polite, the food is top notch - try the duck with apple and the house lemonade made with fresh mint - and everything comes at a fair price. A perfect place for lunch after a spot of window-shopping on Andrassy Utca.

We did not have any plans for the New Year's Day dinner, so I started browsing the restaurants closer to our hotel. The first one on our list was really noisy and more like a club so we went for the next selection in our list; Ket Szerecsen. We were lucky to find a table for three, as the place was soon fully booked and people were advised to come later or make a reservation.

We started with an excellent goulash soup, followed by traditional pork with pickles and french fries, a dish with pasta and a Caesar's salad. We also got a brown beer (the name of which I cannot remember). Everything was high quality and the portions were normal, while the service was prompt and friendly. The place is really cozy, not too formal and not too informal, with interesting decoration which could be enhanced at some points, in order to give the place a more distinct character.

Prices were normal for a Budapest restaurant and especially for the quality of food and service. We paid about 35 euros for two main dishes, a salad and two large glasses of beer (tip included). We would definitely visit Ket Szerecsen in the future!
