One of my favorite in Budapest! (as Budapest citizen...)!
The foods are extremely tasty, nice cold and warm tapas menus, the prices are small (one tapas portion is around 3-4 USD), the tapas size is is bigger than in Spain, 5-6 different foods can be enough for tho person with share.

The warm creamy garlic spinach with spanish ham is amongst the best taste foods I have ever eaten..., do not miss this!

Service is quick enough and polite.

The only negative issue is: they do not accept credit cards, only cash. (but you can find ATMs very close...)

“Best Tapas in Town”
Reviewed August 15, 2012

The only real tapas place in Budapest, on Kalvin Ter, right next to the church. Authentic Spanish tapas of all types, difficult to stop once you get started. Very popular with locals, reservations needed for dinner. Good wines, but best of all is the ambience, noshing a little, drinking a little, then starting all over again. Easy to while away several hours. Take it from a local - Don't miss it.

“Second timer”
Reviewed August 15, 2012 via mobile

Had visited the place last year too, which was the nicest dinner we had in the city. Absolutely great ambiance and brilliant food. This year the music (Rihanna and them) really screwed up the awesome perfect atmosphere we had experienced the year before. Also some of the food was done a bit too well and lacked some flavor in comparison to the year before. But still a really nice place to eat which I would surely recommend!

“Excellent tapas, memorable lemonade”
Reviewed August 5, 2012

We were there with my girlfriend, to have an early lunch, with some lemonades in the saturday heat. The athmosphere was excellent, spanish music, jamon serrano and iberico ham in the counter. The service was okay, the prices were not as high as i thought. We had tabulé, tuna salad, paprika soup, oyster mushroom (?), serrano crocket, entrecote, and as dessert a cheesecake. Except the entrecote everything was excellent, but for me it was just salty, not as tasteful as i waited. However, the cheesecake and the lemonades were one of the best in Budapest.

“Tapas in Budapest-Not Quite Tapas in Barcelona”
Reviewed August 2, 2012

Perhaps I am spoiled by having eaten tapas at the best tapas joints in Barcelona, but I found Pata Negra, which boasts having the only authentic Spanish tapas in Budapest, to be just so so.

The service was just okay. The wait staff was perfectly pleasant although not terribly quick to take my order. The food was good, but not great. The tomato bread, which is a tapas staple, was dry and rather lacking in tomato. It wasn't the crispy delicious tomato smeared bread I was expecting. The shrimp were a bit greasy. The fried potatoes with mayonnaise sauce also a bit greasy as well as a bit cold---not freshly cooked. The Serrano ham was truly authentic, and I did have a tasty glass of sparkling wine, so it was not all bad.

I will admit, I did eat here for lunch, and after walking by the place for a year, I realized dinner seemed to be their busy time. It is located in Calvin ter, near Raday utca, which is known for it's bustling cafes. While other places bustle at lunch, Pata Negra remains rather dead. So perhaps at supper the food would have tasted fresher, the bread not dry and the potatoes not cold. Perhaps, who knows?

It's certainly not a bad restaurant, and if you are itching for tapas, as I was that day, it might scratch the itch a little bit, but it's certainly not a restaurant I would rave about or include on my list of favorites, and I would also caution one not to expect tapas as authentic as they brag about it being. I would eat there again, but there are many places I would rather eat first.
