“Lovely place”

What a treasure dating from 1913 it has old charm with speedy service. The menu had plenty if choice and does not disappoint. The food was excellent not too much but superb

“Great Restaurant! Looks can be deceiving”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

This restaurant looks old and worn, however the menu, quality of food, the authenticity is a great. Being a veggie, I had no issues, great dishes available.

The service is great and if you are in town and want to try some local dishes, this place is highly recommended.

It is not far from the river or from the central train station.

“To experience Hungarian Food at its best”
Reviewed November 13, 2013

My friends from America were going on one of those River Cruises and were staying in Budapest for three days after the cruise. They wanted to eat at a non touristy place which is reflective of the Hungarian Cuisine and atmosphere. They were delighted with both the food and the atmosphere. The food is excellent old world with its goose legs, goose liver, pork and goulasch. If you want nouvelle cuisine this is not the place to come. No huge nuances in the spicing etc. just good old comfort food Hungarian style. The restaurant itself is so typical of the Hungarian style which is wood, wood and more wood. The windows are huge so it doesn't feel dark as some Hungarian style restaurants do. The service was excellent. The wait staff are very friendly and they know their job as the also know their wines. I would recommend this restaurant without hesitation to anyone wishing the Hungarian experience. The locals already know about it but it is three blocks off the main street so the tourists don't. This is the place to go in Budapest.

“Good decent food in a great place off the tourist track”
Reviewed October 30, 2013

Set in a neighbourhood just outside the main city centre, this is a really great authentic place to eat. The service is great, just enough attention, and the food is very decent. My dish wasn't very exciting but it was what it said on the menu and the portions were generous. The decor is really nice with big windows and chandeliers but it's not pretentious, it's very 'real'.

“Traditional Hungarian food; warm, friendly service”
Reviewed October 22, 2013

Once you've eaten here you won't be surprised to learn that this restaurant has been around since 1913. I brought friends here after a trip to the Szechenyi baths last week. I wanted them to have traditional Hungarian food but didn't want to take them to a tourist trap in the Castle district or similar. Haven't been to this restaurant in a while, which is a mistake. I should eat here as often as I can. No Hungarian meal is complete without a soup starter and Kiskakukk takes this seriously -- the soups are outstanding. One friend had stuffed cabbage while we two had pasta and cabbage. Perfection. A good selection of traditional and international desserts. The Hungarian desserts are made with a bit of flair, but without being overly trendy or weird. Same goes for the traditional Hungarian dishes. Waiters were courteous and patient with the non-Hungarian speakers. Prices are very reasonable, especially for the quality and quantity of food presented.
