“Come for Hungarian”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 23, 2014 via mobile

I don't like that much traditional Hungarian cuisine, but here it is good. I took a pork (it was very soft) and cheesecake (don't like it). The stuff was nice and atmosphere is warm.

“Better than average”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 21, 2014 via mobile

Decent restaurant - good food and good service. Extensive wine selection. A little pricey (but not relative to where it is located). Interior designer must have had fun,

“Surprisingly Great!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 17, 2014

After reading the reviews, we went to Klassz with moderate expectations. Fortunately, our expectations were greatly surpassed. The waiter immediately arranged to have an outside table that seated two turned into three seats for us (very nice to sit on Andrassy and people watch). The cacsamaj (duck liver) was very good quality, perfectly sautéed on a nice piece of toasted challah (that soaked up the dripping delicious fat) with a sweet but not too apricot sauce and halves of semi-cooked apricot. Really the way sautéed duck liver should be served. We then had an excellent bottle of wine, the Heimann 2011 Bitkorbor, a delicious blend of cabernet franc, kekfrankos, syrah and merlot. Highly recommend it. The duck breast on dilled squash was excellent, but the star of the evening was the Mangalitca pork, with house-made BBQ sauce that rivaled any I've had in the US, and those wonderful layered and roasted Hungarian potatoes. The pork just melted in your mouth with real pork flavor, the kind you get from well-farmed pork. Serving sizes were generous but thankfully not ridiculous. Our waiter was friendly, attentive and helpful, and other waitstaff picked up for him when he was busy, the sign of well-trained staff. He also made a point of letting us know tip was included in the bill, even though we already knew that. We would definitely go back here. Best meal I've had so far on this trip.

“Nice Surprise on Andrassy St.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 16, 2014

Really nice restaurant on Andrassy St. near Alexandra (the bookstore with the fancy coffee/tea room.) We went there for lunch on a Sunday and the service was very friendly and professional. We each had a soup, asparagus and green pea, both of which were excellent. My wife than had the asparagus risotto which was also excellent. I had the pork tenderloin with sweet potato puree and mushroom ragut. It was also excellent and the sweet potato puree was unique for a Budapest restaurant. Prices were not the cheapest we had seen in Budapest but we had all of this plus 3 glasses of wine for about the equivalent of $50.

“Please tell me this was just bad luck...”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 16, 2014

I have eaten at Klassz a number of times over the last year, and it is one of my favourite restaurants in Budapest. Full of great expectation, I took a group of 3 friends there on Friday night, last week, and was unceremoniously let down.

The prawn linguine was dry and tasteless, the trout and asparagus was bland - the foie gras was of course delicious, but getting that wrong takes a concerted effort.

However, the 'crowning glory' of the evening was the service. Initially comical, then farcical and finally descending to somewhere south of 'deeply uncomfortable,' our dishevelled waitress clearly was not in a fit state to be at work. Our order was taken no less than 4 times, we were served the wrong wine, offered dessert and coffee within 90 seconds of our starters being cleared, and my refusal to pay the service charge was met with non-sensical, quizzical bemusement.

I sincerely hope this was a one-off bad experience, and will watch the next few reviews with genuine interest...
