“Average food and weird waiter”
Reviewed August 19, 2011

I've been there twice once solo once with my partner.
It is located in small house it has a really nice outdoor place in the courtyard. There is a persistent dog at this place so if you do not like them then this is not your place.
What is a strange idea that there is no real menu only a board with the foods and prices and there is no drink menu at all. The food quality really have a wide range from the poor till the excellent, but overall it is average. The waiter behavior is weird a bit. He is not rude or unpplite the best word is the weird, go and check him :)
A three course without alcoholic bevarage costs around 9 thousand HUF / person.

Chez Daniel is THE french restaurant in Budapest , food is excellent ! I really enjoy the Black mussels cream soup with fresh aromatic herbs and the Breast of duck with green pepper sauce and cream... the atmosphere is very romantic! It s my favorite place in the city.

“Pleasant meal, disappointing food...”
Reviewed August 14, 2010

Just had dinner at Chez D, based on friends' recommendations...a wonderfully lovely place to sit, warm service, so gracious that the evening was a delight...

A delight despite surprises and disappointments in the food - we both ordered the same fixed menu proposed as a regular 4-course dinner: onion soup, a duck salad, calve's liver with raspberry sauce, and creme brûlée

The first surprise was the soup - described as traditional, cheese-crusted, etc ... But when it came it turned out to be very tasty, but a cream of mushroom ... When we asked the waiter after puzzling through about half of it (took us a while since onion soup in Budapest can be pretty variable in appearance and style) he told us they were out of onion soup

The salad, a lyonnaise style with fried quail egg and great Foie Gras as well as a few bits of rare but crispy duck and lovely greens, was the high point

We ordered the liver rare. It came out hard as a rock, well done and not convincingly veal ... Could have passed for pork or beef ... Not saying it wasn't veal, it likely was, but the liver was so over-cooked as to be indistinguishable, and the raspberry sauce was potentially tasty but no salvation.

We ordered different desserts from the proposed creme brûlée...my creme caramel was good but not great, my friend's rhubarb tart was basically a clafouti...they were out of chocolate mousse (our first choice)

It would be hard to find a place in Paris this days with as pleasant and low key a setting, or prices so affordable. Probably fairly easy to find a Parisian restaurant with equally clueless and unhelpful waitstaff, but our waiter was nonetheless personable and welcoming and nice. And the company and the evening were great. But the food? Not that night at least
