Description: Bombay Express is a truly Indian restaurant with a no frills fast food concept. Select from a wide range of choices from the buffet or order from the al carte menu and be served in 2 minutes. The only restaurant in Budapest with a capacity to handle more than 100 people and in the centre of the city of Budapest.

I go to Bombay Express for Indian lunch around 5 times yearly. The food quality is good for a fast food restaurant, and there are great value lunch menus (around HUF 1000, which is around EUR 3.5). Also, the location at Oktogon / Liszt Ferenc square is great!

What Bombay Express lacks is atmosphere, but it is a great alternative for lunch or very casual dining of a different sort.

Thank Kriszi

The curries here were definitely not spicy enough - more sweet or sour than anything else. The briyani was quite nice, but there wasn't much of it. If you order a curry and rice set you also get a huge piece of naan which is too much carbs.

Their mango lassi and rose syrup drink is worth trying though.

In the corner of this restaurant there is a small shop that sells all sorts of Indian groceries if you ever want to make your own curry or mung bean soup.

We went in because while walking past one day in the fall the smell of indian spices was overwhelming. The tastes in the restaurant simply did not match up to the smell, and cheaper and better Indian fare can be gotten elsewhere in Budapest I think (see Nyugati ter along Szt Istvan korut).

We originally planned to go to the Taj Mahal not far from Octogon but it was closed on a Monday. We therefore thought we'd give this place a try. OMG - what a place! Food in counter looked ok but everything is cold and needs to be heated in the microwave even though the sign says its freshly made in the kitchen. Butter paneer and chicken vindaloo were luminous green and red (see picture). Horrible tasting food, avoid at all costs - Subway round the corner.

Sometimes quite good, sometimes quite horrible. But still the best fast food restaurant near Oktogon.
