“We want more!!!!!!”
Reviewed November 13, 2013 via mobile

One of the best Indian restaurant that I have to in Europe. I went with 4 other Indian guys and they also raved about the food. Authentic, tasty and really good. Great efficient service with not a mistake on the order which was for 18 people.
The decor and atmosphere added to the experience. Will definitely be coming again.

“Great indian food out of the central area”
Reviewed October 27, 2013

I'm vegetarian and love Indian food. I spent a great dinner in Taj Mahal. It was a was very good experience.

Taj Mahal is a nice Indian restraurant in Budapest. It's a bit out of the central area but still easily accessible. It has an authentic athmosphere. The service is super nice. I had a business dinner here. Serving was great, the food was delicious. I recommend coming here.

“One of the Best Mughlai Restaurants in All My Travels”
Reviewed October 18, 2013

This vegetarian reviewer, who often resorts to Indian restaurants, has eaten in Indian restaurants all over the world and Taj Mahal in Budpest is one of the best. It is very pleasingly decorated and relatively quiet place, though the dining room is fairly large. I have sampled the menu many times and I can testify to its consistency. The owners are Panjabi, as is often the case, and the regional style is Mughlai, the very rich cuisine of the Moghul emporers from the region around Delhi and Agra. This combines well with the Panjabi taste for dishes heavy with cream and butter that have sustained their hard working agricultural life for centuries. The classic dishes in this domain are the best. Dal makhani, Urad dal cooked in a sauce rich with either cream or butter is dreamy. It is rich and smooth but with just enough chili bite to arrive at a perfect balance with its richness. There are a number of items on the menu that are unusual including beautifully made black chickpeas (kala channa) better than I have had on frequent trips to India. There are also misti roti, breads made with grains other than whole wheat flour. These are made with besan--chickpea flour--and are spangled with onion, ginger, herbs and bits of tomato. It is almost a pizza! Their are also rotis of white flour, very thin, which I have only previously encountered in Carribean expatriot communities. There is, of course, a generous assortment of tandoori selections and there are a few South Indian dishes as well. In the dessert category, the kulfi is the genuine article. It is made from cooked down milk rather than from cream which gives it a unique texture. There are many other standard desserts--ras malai, gulab jamun, etc. It is however, the only Indian restaurant I have been to that ever had the simple Gujarati sweet shrikhand on the menu. This is tart yoghurt hung in a cheesecloth overnight to drain the water from it, flavored with saffron, a little cardamom and rose water. I first encountered it here and since then have made it at home often, even using it as a pastry cream for tarts with nectarines or mangoes.

The service, with waitresses dressed rather formally in saris, is friendly, efficient and thoughtful. This place is highly recommended especially for vegetarians.
