One of the places I visit most. Nice food, fair service and the prices are not too bad.
I recommend to try the goat cheese salad and salmon dish, which comes with mashed potatoes and spinach.
Deserts are not brilliant.

“Great lunch.. Great value”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 2, 2013

Stumbled across this restaurant by mistake.. The service was friendly and professional. The menu was excellent and the food fantastic. Some of the speciality drinks were exceptional.
I was pleasantly surprised when the bill came as to what great value it was. Would re visit anytime and highly recommend.

A retro, quite noisy restaurant but full of young Hungarians enjoying great food. Good service, not crazy prices and lovely location

“good food amazing atmosphere!!!!!!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2013

someone told me budapest would be a difficult place to eat, drink and be merry, so old school especially if you go to this place to eat, food amazing, service quick and so friendly, shame it was -3 temperature wise, but so good and well worth the visit, but make sure you book just in case

“If this is ‘Retro’ – I’ll gladly reminisce some more.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2013

Before leaving England, we had done considerable research into places to eat and Menza sounded quite fascinating, so it was in fact the first restaurant we dined in on our second visit to Budapest. I have had some awful experiences trying to eat in the cities of East Berlin, Zagreb and Sofia when they were under communist rule, so it was wonderful to find this recreation of the old canteen style but with the added benefit of extremely fine food. I think it was fortunate that we visited relatively early in the evening because the restaurant – despite being pretty sizeable – began to fill up rapidly, although I got the feeling that the turnover of diners more or less maintains an equilibrium as people finish eating and leave to create space for the next visitors.
It is justifiably popular and we enjoyed every morsel we had. We often share courses so that we both get to taste everything and this was no exception, but the goose liver dish didn’t go very far between two – I’m not complaining, it is an expensive commodity these days and isn’t even cheap to buy in the market. The confit venison leg was by happy contrast, a really substantial Hungarian portion and the entire dish was brilliant in its conception and execution – top marks for tender meat and a lovely sauce. If our stay in the city had been longer, we would certainly have eaten here again but we were determined to visit other restaurants we’d read about on Trip Advisor, including Klassz, a particular favourite of ours just around the corner.
