Thank you Oscar! I hope your father had a unique present as you planed!
We fancied visiting this place but found the trip advisor information and their website a bit conflicting. This is less of a museum, and more of a yard full of army vehicles. It's not staffed all the time so it's important you email or phone ahead. They ask for 48 hours notice but our concierge at the hotel rang and we went there and then. At the time it was 25 euro for a tour of the 'museum' or 45 if they came to budapest and pick us up. It's not advertised or sign posted and our taxi driver really struggled to find it. With hindsight we should have had them pick us up but we were in a hurry to get lots of things done that day. The tour itself round the yard was really good. Great English, very knowledagble and good sense of humour. You can sit in everything and play with everything not like a normal museum. On reaching the park it was clear they were hoping to up sell our museum visit with a drive of some of their army vehicles, and also the price did seem negotiable but (and this is the only reason it's a 4 star not 5 star rating) they only accept cash, and they are really in the middle of nowhere so we just didn't have access to more funds, even though they said there was an ATM nearby. So, if you like vehicles or army gear, this tour is for you but don't just try and turn up out of the blue and remember cash only !
Dear Ian,
Thank you for a nice review, I hope you enjoyed the tour! As you mentioned right now booking a visit in advance is needed and also I work hard on a web-terminal solution so in the near future our visitor's will have the option to pay by credit card on our website.
Till then... ONLY CASH Accepted!

Cold War Park Budapest
Being a student of history my entire life, one of the first places I went back in 1998 with my wife. What a cool place. Instead of destroying all the monuments and statues to Communism, they took them down and moved them out in the middle of nowhere. On a hillside in the Green Belt, Ta Da, all of the communist memorials. If you are a history buff, you should go see it. Soviet memorials to Russian Heroes who "Liberated" Budapest, to Hungarian politicians who murdered their own people, it is all there. I have not been there for a few years, but every time we have visitors from abroad, off we go.
We just had a great fun at Cold War Park during our Armoured vehicle driving program. I thought that it will be only one vehicle to drive but on the site we saw 4x4 and 8x8 wheel droved ones (BTR60 and some Hungarian ones)T-55 tanks and other Russian war-machines just in a good condition it was amazing! The guys let us climb inside all those things even a MIG-21 Fighter jet.... of course they asked for a few more Euro for that fun but it was a once in a lifetime event so it worst it! So for all the Cold war and military junkies I can tell If you in Hungary don't miss out Cold War Park!!! After having a guided tour in the exhibition finally they took us out to the driving field with the 8 wheeled Russian BTR60 I drove it for app. 20 minutes 10 tons of armour and two engines with a lot of power I felt nothing can stop me! Thank you Cold War Park for the unforgettable Great Fun!
