I wouldn't have known about this place unless a friend had mentioned it to me and told me to visit. All the bars and restaurants seem to be located behind the synagogue and the whole area is alive with cool places and Szimpler Kert is the most popular ruin bar. It is so quirky and an absolute feast for the eyes. It has the most eclectic mix of items in the bar and a photographers paradise. We first went in during the day and it had a lot of people just walking through for a look, we visited several times at night and we found a queue formed to get in after about 7/8pm ish but I guess that depends on what night you visit we went on a Friday night and there was a DJ on and we got good seats near the back bar however if you got in late you'd struggle to get a seat as so busy. It's huge with an upstairs and one day we visited during the day time and they had a makers markets on. Drinks are cheap, quirky and full of atmosphere and a must visit. Great location as loads of other bars and good places right nearby. A total one off venue and a must see.

A great place to come for a drink or two! We arrived late afternoon which was a nice time to go as it meant that we could enjoy the magical atmosphere/music and we got a table. A funky DJ was playing and we were mesmerised by the enchanting decorations. Drinks were very reasonably priced and the bartenders are generous with their shots!! We would definitely visit this cooky and colourful spot again.

You could spend a day here with it’s multiple venues and floors. Drinks were great & plenty of places to sit and relax with friends.

Expected a tourist trap but ended up having a great Friday night. The beers were decently priced and they had IPAs on tap. Open mic night section was entertaining as they had some regulars who knew how to liven up the crowd. A great first stop for a night of ruin bars as the line outside gets quite full around 11pm.

Why do the tourist guides make such a big deal of this rundown, filthy side alley. Don't bother even if the beer is cheap but served in pathetic plastic glasses. There are better local areas to find

Highly recommend coming in the afternoon to enjoy it in the light before it gets dark and super crowded. Be prepared for the people, but certainly not worth missing! An amazing, artistic, and unique bad! Give the Beary's hard juice a try!

The Market is very easy to find, only open on Sunday so expect the crowd there. With lots of variety food, spices, fresh produce, cheese ,other delicacies & a bar , plenty of tables & chaiirs to enjoy the food, very friendly sellers , they let you try their product & even give free goodies. A must if you are in Budapest

As all the reviews say it’s an amazing place. Quirky and fun, decent prices too (about £10 for four local pints of beer). Would recommend a visit here.

Great ruin bar..
Where else can you have a drink sitting in a bathtub?
Yes, the staff can be a bit grumpy - I don't blame them - having to put up with (sometimes drunk) tourists all day....
Grab a seat (you may be sitting on a bar stool whilst your friends are sitting on stools) and just watch the world go by.
Take a sharpie pen and leave a mention and enjoy the wildlife in the toilets...
Also, the art on the wall is for sale....

Ruin bars in Budapest are all the rage. This one is probably the best known. Even if you don't drink, visiting this place should be a part of your adventure in Budapest!
