“Kapital Inn... a must while in Budapest!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 26, 2013

While we stayed in some great places during this European vacation, we especially enjoyed the Kapital Inn. When you stay here, you are treated like family!

Our host Albert greeted us at the door and carried our luggage upstairs. Our jaws dropped while we entered the premises as Albert has done an excellent job with remodeling a floor of an old apartment building into a beautiful place to stay.

Each morning at breakfast you have a choice of cereals, fruit, juice, coffee and local pastries and breads. Albert will even cook you an omelette if you like! He is also on hand to answer any questions travelers may have about the area, not to mention great tips for local attractions and how to get around.

We can't say enough about our stay... the rooms are immaculate and cleaned each day. We really felt at home here... we're sorry we had to leave!

Room Tip: While some rooms have their own bathroom, others may require travelers to share a bathroom. Don'...

The best host in Budapest. Stylish finishes and soaring 14-foot ceilings. And a location right off the "Michigan Avenue" of Budapest.

Albert, the proprietor, is so friendly and helpful. As we pulled up in our taxi to the hotel, he ran out to greet us and carry our suitcases for us. He gave us invaluable tips about the hours and availability of certain sightseeing activities, which allowed us to use our time better during our trip. He took an interest in getting to know us and is just a fun guy to hang out with.

We stayed in the suite, which was super stylish and nice and roomy with a sitting area for relaxing. The ceilings were sky high and the place was an awesome mix of old-world grandeur and modern design.

The location of the hotel could not be better either! It's right off of Andrassy, which as Chicagoans, we deemed to be the "Michigan Avenue" of Budapest, with Louis Vuitton and other high-end shops lining the boulevard. It's very central in terms of getting to bars and restaurants off of Andrassy and going to Heroes' Square and the Széchenyi baths (a must-do!).

Pay a visit to Albert and you will not regret it!

Just like you, I read the reviews to try to see how authentic this Budapest "rockstar' property really is - after all, don't want to spoil our trip with some manufactured 'EXCELLENT" rating. Having read the reviews we took the plunge and were delighted at every step. The responsiveness to enquiries and bookings were first class, the confirmation and follow up highly professional and the co-ordination of our arrival was perfect. Albert met us at street level and insisted on carting our 2 x 20KG bags up the three floors (he saw straight through my guilt driven but reluctant offer to take one claiming he wanted to be 'balanced" and then proceeded to skip up the stairs!).
Once upstairs (yes it is three floors but we managed it with humour each time and it IS worth the effort) you find an oasis of modern design much as you'd probably wish your home decor could be. The rooms are spacious, very clean, the beds are great and the aircon great. Albert has done a great job making 5 star fit out. Once settled Albert took to learning more about what we wanted and then carefully helping us to develop the to do list in a helpful humorous but not painful or pushy way. Before long we were armed with all we needed, including a map) and hit the streets in search of whatever Budapest had to offer. Albert knows his stuff, makes great recommendations and is a genuine guy who helps avoid the stuff you'd hate. The breakfasts are plentiful, include some local delicacies (he did offer to bet me I couldn't pick the ingredients of one pastry) and delicious. He's ask stocked the bar with refreshments that were there for the taking.
We couldn't recommend the Kapital Inn more highly - a genuine rockstar property offering great value.

Room Tip: All the rooms look great - the standard rooms have shared facilities

I highly, highly recommend staying at the Kapital Inn. The accommodations were modern, wonderful, clean, spacious and air conditioned. There was also a common room with a refrigerator stocked with drinks and snacks. The Inn was well located to sights and conveniently located near the subway which was extremely easy to use and provided covnvient access to everywhere. Albert was there to meet us and to help us map out our initial plans. When we returned from our adventures, he was always around to check in with us and follow up on how we were doing, what we were doing next and offering further suggestions. Albert's observations regarding Hungarian history and culture were very insightful (and often humorous). He was extremely delightful to chat with and even our teenagers enjoyed his company. This was the entire family's favorite stay on our trip. Thanks Albert!

We stayed for 3 nights pre-cruise. We don't have alot of experience with B&B lodging, so our comparison is rather limited. I also am skeptical of the "hype" some properties get on TA, and prefer to read more balanced reviews. So, to the other skeptics out there, Kapital Inn deserves its ratings. We arrived via taxi from the airport. Albert was there to meet us -- and grabbed our bags as we walked up the stairs to the B&B. The stairs were manageable. I'm in my early 60's, and am a little gimped by foot surgery, but made it fine. I was pretty surprised at the cool, modern space Albert has created for his guests. Our bedroom was large. We did not have an ensuite, but the bathroom and additional WC were just steps from the room. Sharing was not an issue during our stay. There is a beautiful outdoor space for guests to share with large TV, lounge and dining furniture. WiFi was excellent throughout our stay. A fridge in the kitchen area was stocked with some drinks. When we were ready to go out, Albert spent some time with us, finding what we were interested in seeing, and gave us suggestions for our stay. We enjoy walking, and he was able to plot out several sights of interest on a city map he provided. He suggested several places to eat -- they were spot on.

Kapital Inn's location was very good for us -- Terror House was around the corner. We could have taken public transportation, but didn't feel the need. We even walked to Buda -- had to work off some of the calories from all the delicious food and wine in Budapest! Did I mention the breakfast?? Fruit, breads, cereal, and cooked to order eggs --

We loved the old property, Albert's modern remodel, his casual, laid back style, and the wealth of knowledge and love he has for his city and country that made our trip special. We highly recommend staying at Kapital Inn and hope we'll be back someday.

There is very little I can add to previous reviews without sounding cheesy or a total brown-noser!! Kapital inn is every bit as good as the reviews and Albert, owner and host, is as good as you will find anywhere.
We stayed for 3 nights on the hottest weekend of the year in July, coincidentally whilst the Hungarian grand prix was on.
We stayed in a deluxe room, which was well equipped, with a nice en suite. The room was spotlessly clean and benefited from nice touches such as lap top and free wifi. The only minor criticisms I would have are that the only hanging space for clothes are 2 hooks on the backs of the room and en suite doors and that the air conditioning is centrally controlled and perhaps kept the room a little too warm at night. In its defense, it did hit 41c outside so it was working pretty hard! Minor criticisms and should in no way deter anyone from staying here.
Albert is the star of the show. From the minute he sprinted up the hundred or so stairs on our arrival to when we left 4 days later he was brilliant, great company, terrific fun and as helpful as you want him to be. His introduction on arrival is polished and tailored to each guest's needs, with Albert adding to a map with you detailing restaurants, places to see, things to do. The local knowledge, history, recommendations etc made this the perfect city break. He makes a mean omelette and breakfast is varied and good. Albert is at hand over breakfast to help plan your day and was always offering to help arrange trips, taxis, restaurants etc.
We had a wonderful time which was made so much better by Albert. It's a great city but doubly good if someone can fill in the gaps with everything that will make a trip truly special.
My only regret is that he is there and we are in the UK as he is the sort of top guy that everyone would want as a friend. When talking about recent history and his life there, you can tell that he is a thoroughly good, honest man who has an appreciation of what he has achieved and the hardship of others.
Perfect trip and an even better host.

Room Tip: Deluxe rooms have en suite. 2 other rooms share a bathroom

I stayed a week at Kapital Inn and enjoyed my time there very much. Rooms are comfortable, well furnished, and spacious. Albert, the owner and innkeeper, is friendly and helpful. He could not have been more welcoming. The location makes it easy to visit this large city. Most sights in Pest are a short walk, and the subway and tram lines are close by and easy to use. Tip: use transit - cheap, easy, fast, comfortable. There are many good restaurants nearby, and Albert has tips on which are the most interesting new entrants. Breakfasts are generous; Albert is a trained chef and will be disappointed if you don't let him cook eggs for you, but he brings in tasty local pastries supplemented with fruit, juice, coffee, tea, etc. In good weather, breakfast outside on the terrace is the height of comfort.

Kapital is on the top floor of a classic 19th century building, as others have noted. There's no elevator, so it's three flights of stairs. No big deal, just know this is what you're getting.

Albert has a huge library of travel guides and information on Budapest and Hungary, along with a big selection of movies, in English and Magyar. His knowledge of the history and politics of the country makes for a fascinating conversation. Having lived for years in Boston, he's got a good understanding of how Hungarian culture compares to the US. I enjoyed talking with him very much.

Bottom line: a very hearty recommendation.

Room Tip: I thought a private bath was worth it.
