“What a find....”
Reviewed June 2, 2008

We stumbled across Kapital Inn after searching for 'something different' for our week in Budapest and we're glad we did.
While we couldn't be accommodated for the whole period we wished, we got off to a great start to our trip by staying with Albert & Scott.
The location is great - close enought to the 'action' to be an easy walk to the major attractions/river etc, but ideally set in a side street with no background noise - even with room windows open or chilling on the deck.
At risk of repeating everyone else's comments, Albert left no stone unturned in ensuring we made the most of our budapest experience. Give it a try - I bet there won't be anything he is unable to do!
The rooms are a great size, VERY confortable beds, and the whole property is immaculatly clean.

The superlatives in the other postings are all dead-on and, if anything, understate the terrific experience you'll have at Kapital Inn. And, as the others have said, Albert goes to almost ridiculous lengths to make sure your stay is the best possible.

The location is on a quiet street a short walk away from an efficient subway station and just 10 minutes or so from the train station. Kapital Inn is quite a distance from the river, so there's no views to speak of, although the terrace is great.

I wonder if the marketing of Kapital Inn as a gay facility keeps some straights away. If so, it shouldn't. I was there with my adult children, all of us straight, and we felt quite welcome. Frankly, it was the highlight of our five-country tour of Europe. This should be the top destination of anyone planning a trip to Budapest.

BONUS: Albert said he's looking into expanding beyond the four units. If so, travelers can only benefit.

We stayed at the Kapital Inn in April 2008, and would recommend it to others. I will not reiterate what has been said in previous posts. Yes, the B&B is comfortable, modern and immaculately kept, and the food is great.

But the real star of our visit was Albert, the proprietor. He expressed a keen interest in the quality of our stay in the city. He made dinner reservations and advised us on sightseeing. When our vacation was about to be disrupted by a transit strike, he carefully monitored the news and made sure that we could travel on to Prague by train from Budapest on the day of the strike. Because of his efforts, everything went without a hitch!

Albert is truly committed to ensuring that guests enjoy their visit to Budapest. And yes, we would stay there again!

I booked our stay at the Kapital Inn based on the great reviews on tripadvisor and the Kapital Inn exceeded our expectations. We stayed in Budapest for 5 nights and Albert (the owner and host) made sure our stay was excellent.

When we arrived at the Inn, Albert was ready for us and took our luggage up 4 flights of stairs and helped us settle in. After a quick tour of the B&B, he let us know that anything in the kitchen (drinks, pastries, snacks, etc.) were complementary which is a huge plus when you have the munchies or want to bring a drink on your walking tour.

After settling in, Albert printed out a great walking tour of Budapest and was very helpful with restaurant recommendations and travel tips in Budapest. The study room was also very helpful because there was a computer with a high-speed internet connection, a printer and travel books for your own research.

The rooms were very tastefully decorated. We stayed in a room with a shared bathroom (there are 2 rooms with private bathrooms like a master suite and 2 rooms which share a common bathroom), and it was great. There is a half bathroom so there is never a wait, and we never had any issues with the setup.

The rooftop deck was beautiful with potted plants, a sitting area, some tanning chairs as well as a flat screen tv outdoors. Great for relaxing after all the sightseeing on the day.

Location is very convenient. It's literally 1 block away from the metro and a 5 minute walk to lots of restaurants and bars. It's one block away from the main shopping street so it's nice and quiet at night, but very close to night life.

But what really made it an amazing stay was the hospitality. Albert cooked us breakfast each morning (ranging from chocolate chip pancakes to omelettes) and would chat with us about our plans that day and give us any local tips. There is also a library of dvds to borrow (once again for free) and when we went watch a movie in our room, Albert made us popcorn. He even helped us get our laundry done (because we were on a month long European vacation). It was the little things that he did that made our stay absolutely amazing and has us raving to all our friends back home.

Believe all the reviews here, as each and every one is well deserved. If I could give the Kapital Inn more than the 5 circles for a rating I would. The Kapital Inn was the best stay during our month long trip (through Vienna, Budapest, Prague, Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt, etc...) and I would recommend this place to any and everyone.

My partner and I recently spent 2 days and 2 nights at this jewel of a B&B in Budapest. Tucked away on a very quiet side street just a block from one of the main drags of the city, and only a 15 to 20 minute walk west of the Danube, is the amazing little place at the very top of a gorgeous old apartment building. It was my first experience at a gay owned B&B anywhere, and I can honestly say it was one of the very best hotel experiences I've had.

The Inn occupies the top 2 floors of the building and is 3 flights up from the street. (the guest rooms are at the very top level of the Inn) There is no lift, but the walk up is not the least bit troublesome, and gives you a chance to check out this really cool and interesting 19th century building. The Inn decor is clean, tasteful and modern, but also very warm, comfortable and inviting--not the least bit cold or sterile. There are 4 guest rooms--2 with baths and 2 without, but the shared bath is only steps away down the hall. We had one of the rooms with bath, and it was absolutely perfect. The room was most spacious (by US standards, which means enormous by Euro standards!) with a very comfy queen sized platform bed, and large walk-in shower in the bathroom.

Albert, your host (we didn't get a chance to meet his partner, Scott, unfortunately, as he was away on biz in the states at the time of our stay) is amazing! Part concierge, part tour guide and part gourmet chef (his omlettes and choc chip pancakes are the best!), he is the epitome of hospitality and graciousness and leaves his guests wanting for nothing. He greeted us at the door downstarirs and took our suitcases from us the moment we came into the building on the ground floor and deposited them into our room.

There is a fully stocked breakfast room (every cereal, tea and beverage you can think of, in addtion to pastries and coffee along with your cooked to order hot breakfast) and an office space for the guests with a computer for internet access and a video/dvd library--all free of charge. Albert and Scott are into flat screen TV's--there's one in every room of the house, and dvd players in the guest rooms--so you'll have the best of every modern electronic convenience.

But whether you decide to lounge at the Inn--check out the INCREDIBLE rooftop outside terrace, especially if you're there in the spring thru summer/fall months--or you roam through the neighborhood streets checking out the nearby trendy restaurants (Albert's recommendations for dinner are all spot on), museums, parks, shops and palaces-turned-embassys (ALL within convenient walking distances), you can't go wrong with this place. It's a bargain at any price and I HIGHLY recommend it. It will make your stay in Budapest the best ever!

My partner and I have just returned from a lovely stay in Budapest. The difference between a good holiday and a great holiday is often a matter of being ‘in-the-know’ about what the local area has to offer. From the moment we arrived, Albert (our host at the Kapital Inn) could not have been more helpful, friendly and generally just pretty fab! He ensured we knew where to go, when to go and how to get there.

The Hotel was immaculately presented with a great roof terrace (an excellent sun-trap) and the room itself was spacious and clean with a large High-def TV, DVD player and decently sized en-suite which had one of the best showers I’ve experienced. There is also a really useful media-room with loads of tourist information and DVDs in case you fancy a quiet night in.

Albert ensured we had a wide selection at breakfast and I highly recommend his omelettes - delicious!

The Hotel is well situated in Pest, a short walk from loads of great restaurants and bars.

In short, I would definitely recommend the Kapital INN. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Budapest and this is largely down to Albert’s excellent service and his and Scott’s first-class establishment!

Quick shout out to Hillary and Adam who stayed at the same time as us. Hope you enjoyed Croatia and eventually got your luggage!

We have always been frequent users of trip review sites, but never felt compelled to write a review...until now. The Kapital Inn is by far the most amazing place we have ever had the pleasure of staying. The previous reviews are spot on in their rave reviews. The only thing that exceeds the beautiful accomodations, is the service from Albert, our host. This was exemplified tonight, the second night that British Airways was kind enough to still not be able our find our luggage in their new terminal 5. We finally went shopping so we didn't have to wear the same thing for a third day, and upon our return to the Kapital Inn, Albert asked, rather insisted, that he wash not only the clothes we had been living in for two days, but also the new clothes we had just bought, prior to wearing them. We have never been offered such complete thoughtfullness at any inn, bed and breakfast, or 5 star hotel. Albert goes above and beyond, and it's true when the reviewers say you feel totally comfortable, and we have enjoyed staying in our room as much as our actual vacation. We have built luxury homes for others in the United States, and our room is as nice or nicer than many of the multi-million dollar homes built. We can go on and on, but all in all there is no place like the Kapital Inn.
