“a most comfortable environment, in the heart of Budapest”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 14, 2011

When our taxi reached Kapital Inn, in the heart of Budapst, Albert our host, smiling and baseball capped (he studied in Boston for 6 years), grabbed our 2 HEAVY bags and sprung up the stairs to the travel oasis he has created.

Kapitol Inn was easily the most comfortable environment of the 11 locations we stayed during our trip to Italy and Austria. The rooms are beautifully appointed with all modern conveniences. The breakfasts are ample and appealing. We were the only guests, and had free access to the kitchen, and the lovely outdoor common area with flat screened TV where we sipped tea and luxuriated while watching the Royal Wedding.

Upon our arrival Albert took out a map and laid out a perfect walking tour of the city with expert guidance on the essential sites, restaurants, and attractions. We managed to drop by the magnificent Opera House and saw Tosca, performed by an outstanding, all Hungarian cast.

Budapest is on a scale where power walking, and a few quick rides on the ancient metro, allowed us to cover the major sites in 2 days. Everyone speaks English, since no visitor is expected to even attempt Hungarian, which is apparently derived from Finnish! In between our excursions, and before and after our day, Albert would enthrall us with the history, politics, and current struggles of the country.

One experience Albert practically pleaded us to try, was the ornate public spas that house huge hot baths and saunas and other life giving properties. Budapest sits on hundreds of thermal springs and public bathing is the major social activity of the citizenry. Once we saw the Spa, with its Seurat-like tableau of bathers, we would have gladly partaken if time and schedule allowed.

We vowed to Albert, that we would be back…

I chose to celebrate my birthday weekend here and was very pleased that I did as I had a truly fabulous time.

The accommodation is spacious, stylish, super clean, relaxing and really felt like a home away from home - although unfortunately my home does not have the wonderful rooftop terrace that Kapital Inn has!

Albert, the owner and our host, was brilliant and he really added to the enjoyment of our stay. His quirky and wicked sense of humour was spot on. He’s also a very interesting guy. I looked forward to our chats at breakfast when we caught up on our day's activities and had a giggle at any amusing stories from our day. I appreciated Albert's honesty about our prepared itinerary and the top tips he gave us. Albert was every bit as helpful in person as he had been to my email queries prior to our arrival. To sing Albert’s praises further he also provided us with a map, restaurant/bar suggestions (which we used and were very good). In particular he helped by advising us on how to use the Szechenyi Baths and loaned us a self tour guidebook for the Terror Museum, which was really useful. Oh and he is a very good omelette maker too!! So much so I was too 'boring' to deviate to pancakes for breakfast instead ;)

A definite plus to the accommodation is that the goodies that are available for breakfast - pastries, bread, fruit, yoghurt, tea, coffee, soft drinks etc - are free and available for you to eat throughout the day, just a case of helping your self.

There are four rooms. The two deluxe ones have an ensuite and the other two share a bathroom down the corridor. We stayed in a standard room with a shared bathroom for the first night and then Albert kindly upgraded us for the remainder of our stay as a deluxe room was free. The rooms are spacious for European standards and decorated in a stylish modern design. The bathrooms are super lovely as the shower cubicles are huge and powerful.

There is free wifi available, an office with computer access, along with books and DVDs to borrow. The highlight is the rooftop terrace where we enjoyed eating breakfast in the sunshine and chilling out with a bottle of wine in the evening. There is even a TV and sofa on it!!

Kapital Inn is in a good location for exploring all of the sights. We walked everywhere (we do like walking!) – even to Buda! It is on a quiet street (so peaceful at night) yet close enough (just around the corner) to all of the fun. It is on the top floor and there are a few flights of stairs but this was not a problem, in fact I welcomed the exercise to burn off all the yummy pastries I had eaten!

In summary we loved our break in Budapest, not just for the beautiful interesting city, but very much so for our fabulous stay with Albert at Kapital Inn. Once again, thank you so much Albert – if only we could have clones of you and your place in all the other cities we plan to explore!

Room Tip: Pack an extra mirror - only one in the bathroom!

Our experience at the Kapital Inn is something I will always remember. Albert, the host, is a riot!! He made our acclimation to a new city/language/culture seamless. His description of how to get through the bathhouse experience without falling prey to some old communist customs was hilarious...and eerily accurate! He gave us a long list of restaurants to try (Menza is still my favorite) and tourist traps to stay away from. He was the consummate consierge. By the end of our trip, it truly felt like we were staying with an old friend. Albert was such an amazing host.

As for the Inn itself, it was spotless. Beautifully decorated bedrooms, modern bathrooms, cozy kitchen with pastries and goodies, internet access, etc... Sure, the stairs leading up to the Inn were painful, especially after a long day of walking and eating those aforementioned pastries. But the oasis that awaited was well worth it!

I cannot recommend the Kapital Inn highly enough. TEN STARS!!!

We stayed here in January and had an incredible time. Albert is a wonderful chef and breakfast each morning was a treat. The rooms were immaculate and beautifully decorated. Albert was happy to share knowledge of the city and gave us some great tips for where to go and see/eat. We definitely hope to be back and we'd highly recommend Kapital Inn to all of our friends and family!

Thank you Albert - we had the most amazing stay!

My wife and I arrived on a night train from Krakow and were EXHAUSTED!
Albert took good care of us, going above and beyond the call of duty.
Our stay was amazing, and everything was perfect.
This B&B is spectacular!
The only possible negative is the 3 floor walk up to the flat, but Albert even carried our bags! He does have great arms...

It was an easy choice to reserve rooms at the Kapital Inn based on the Trip Advisor glowing reviews. We were not disappointed in the least. Albert is a wonderful host providing great omelets and entertaining conversation at breakfast, not to mention all of the helpful sightseeing advice. The boutique hotel is immaculate and you feel more like you are a guest in a very fashionable home rather than in a hotel. The rooftop terrace alone is reason enough to stay here. I might return to Budapest just to be able to stay at the Kapital Inn again!

This is a B&B , one block off the Andrassy Utca fairly near the Octagon and Heroes Square area. Our host Albert, was so genuine. He was interested in us as travelers, full of pertinent information and never came across as disturbed by our questions. He was very hands on, providing us a map with points of interest based on what we told him we were interested in seeing or doing.
Although the flat is 4 flights up, he always was adamant about carrying the luggage up the stairs when we got there and down the stairs for us when we left. ( We not only had a lot of baggage, but we had very heavy baggage.) Calling a cab for us when we wanted to tour or go to a place farther than was practical for train, tram or bus was never a problem either. He advised us and was familiar on how foreigners rent a car with a recommendation of a car rental company close-by via the internet. I made the arrangements based on this information and he was able to change our reservations when our plans changed. Overall, a very resourceful advisor for the traveler or tourist. His ability to speak English and Hungarian and sometimes interpret or speak on the telephone for us was invaluable.
Breakfast time was very enjoyable and I would say Albert was a very good cook. We sometimes had pancakes, maybe with eggs prepared anyway we liked them including omelettes made with fresh produce. The orange juice, coffee, and milk was always fresh and plentiful. Every morning there was a plethora of fresh baked goods including sweetbreads and other grained breads.
The penthouse apartment although in a turn of the previous century building setting, has been renovated and is modern even by American standards. The guestroom we stayed in had it's own bathroom. All the fixtures in it seemed to be top of the line and it too was well decorated with modern tile and neutral color scheme. The bedroom was well decorated, plenty large enough for two with nice furniture, a comfortable bed, and a flat screen TV. We were comfortable and always felt safe and secure. There is a nice office room with internet access and a terrace for the guests with easy access from the guest rooms and breakfast area. Albert provides refrigerated soft drinks for the guests in this dining area which also has a flat screen television. Many times we were able to put locally purchased food ( a cake one time) in the refrigerator with no incident.
For the clean freaks out there, this place will do you justice! He runs a tidy and clean place.
Overall, I can highly recommend this place to stay while on your trip to Budapest for business or pleasure.
