“Trendy interior, good location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 4, 2012

Felt hotel wasn’t value for money in what we paid but that said, we did book through a travel agent and it was booked a week prior to going so probably not the most cost effective way.
That said, the hotel is in a good location. Yes, the surrounding area isn’t the most attractive but I never felt unsafe. It’s located 2 stops away from the metro stop where all 3 lines interchange so very convenient for getting around the city. Also a tram and a few buses stop virtually outside. We purchased a 7day travel ticket (we were there for 4 days). We got the ticket from post office at airport and used it to get to the hotel and then around town – a lot cheaper than taxis or airport shuttle bus.
I’ve read a few posts on here about unfriendly staff. The check in lady was friendly and smiled a lot. The housekeeping staff we saw were friendly, as were the breakfast staff. In fact, I asked for a bottle of coffee one morning (not keen on coffee machines) and the next morning, the lady offered me the bottle again without me having to ask. Here’s a tip, greet staff (and locals) in their language: Jo reggelt (yo reggae) good morning, Koszonom (kersunom) thank you etc. and you’re guaranteed a smile.
Room was fine – it was my husband’s birthday so they said they’d ‘upgraded’ us to a room with a window looking outside. Clean and tidy. Our coffee & tea & showercap weren’t replenished and the tv didn’t work but we didn’t report it so didn’t give them the chance to rectify it. Free wifi in rooms - though you may have to play around with which connection you use to get the one with the best strength.
Breakfast was ok. The scrambled eggs were a bit wet for my liking but bacon and little sausage things were nice. They even had broccoli and other veg! Fruit consisted of apples and kiwi, would have been nice to have a banana but not a big deal. They also had bread, pastries, cereal & yoghourt. The juice, if you could call it that, was a sugary liquid with a hint of whatever juice it was meant to resemble.
There’s a shop opposite the hotel which sells a 2 liter bottle of water for the equivalent of 22 pence, snacks etc. so very handy. Also a McDonalds on the corner for a late night snack or coffee, Burger King across the road and a 2 storey shopping center just opposite. We had to pay a tax when checking out – less than £3. All in all, if I could get this hotel for less than I paid this time round, I would have no problem staying here again or recommending it to friends and family.

Room Tip: Let them know if it's a special occasion and you may get a room with a window looking outside.

Stayed for 4 nights - had a room on the 4th floor (recommended). Very comfortable, very clean, very quiet, good breakfast, very helpful staff. Interesting building - an imaginative conversion.
SItuated very close to excellent public transport links (being over 65 and from an EU country we travelled free on all public transport - carry your passport as proof of age to the Inspectors at the Metro entrances) so were able to access all the things we wanted to visit. The river and town centre are quite walkable.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in both Budapest and the Atrium.

Room Tip: 4th floor for maximum light....

My husband and I tried to stay at this hotel for our anniversary. We booked the trip six months in advance, re-confirmed a week prior and two days prior to check-in, but upon check-in we were informed that there was a "plumbing problem with our room" and our reservation had been cancelled. While waiting in the lobby to determine what our options were, other guests were able to check-in. We asked if we could have another room, but were told that this was not possible, as they cancelled our reservation and were fully booked.

The front desk staff did locate another hotel nearby that "was even higher quality at a better price". When it was obvious that we couldn't get anywhere with the Atrium, we took cab to the other hotel and were completely disappointed. It was shabby, dirty and not anything like the Atrium. After being in transit for 18 hours, we just crashed, tried to find other options the next day, but everything was booked. We were stuck at the "replacement hotel" for a week. Not my idea of a romantic anniversary trip.

Overall a very poor impression of this hotel and their level of service. Hard to imagine that the "plumbing problem" that plagued our assigned room took a full week to repair. We were completely "dismissed" by the staff and manager.

We knew that there were no windows facing the outside world when we booked so it was no surprise to find all the rooms looking into a large open space (with a great clock!) - IE the Atrium. The room was comfortable, wi-fi, BBC World and a good breakfast. The hotel is quite central, only 5 minutes from the Metro and trams,

Room Tip: The higher you are, the brighter the daylight from the top - ask for the 4th floor.

Room
Small but clean, modern ammenities. And really, we were out most of the day so the small size didn't matter so much. They have the separate twin beds. Handy if you're travelling with friends slightly unfortunate if you are travelling as a couple.
Room only had a shower, but it had a rain showerhead.
The airconditioning was a little bit noisy at first but it was okay
As there are no outside window, ventilation and a working air conditioning (in the summer) would be necessary. This was fine during our stay.

Location
Really fine, it's not situated in the heart of all of the most touristy things.
It is a 2 minute walk from a hub of bus tram and metro transport. So very easy to get to the center or with transfers to the city park.
It's also very close to cool ruin bars of the Jewish district.
Walking is possible to the city center (approx 20-25 mins).

Breakfast
There wasn't much variation but they did have a lot to offer: different breads, cereals, yoghurt, cheese, cold cuts, eggs, sausage, hashbrowns, grapefruit and pineapple juice
We didn't experience a wait, but maybe the hotel wasn't as full.

Building
Is a creative use of space. Fun.

Taxi
They have an unfortunate policy that they can only call one taxi company and it charges 5800 HUF to go to the airport. If you use the official airport taxi Fo Taxi 2 222 222, it's 3900 HUF (€15) to go to the airport.

Baggage holding
For the last stay of your day, they have nicely organized their baggage holiding practices instead of just chucking them in somewhere.

On the whole, I would go back again because it does offer good value for what you pay.

Room Tip: 308 is small. If it's the summer then I would try to get a room on the 1st or 2nd floor as it co...

This Hotel came as part of a package, and for what we paid it was more than adequate. However its a strange place with 4 stories of rooms overlooking a central atrium. Minimalistic clean white paint makes it look like a well decorated prison with the large central space (the breakfast area and bar) looking like the place where the convicts play pool.
The rooms are small however, but very clean and the bathroom (alas just a shower) was fine. Sadly the kettle didn't work for the first 24hrs.
Staffing levels were poor though most (but not all) were pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was unremarkable.
The main plus is the proximity to the underground and it was really only a matter of minutes to get to central Budapest. Perhaps we wouldn't chose to stay here again but overall it was an OK place for a short break and a good way to explore the city.

Room Tip: None of them have a view, sadly.

I will leave this review short and sweet. Hotel is lovely, clean and very modern. A nice welcoming surprise when you get in from the dirty dark streets of Budapest. Breakfast was ok, more continental than english but still plenty of fruit, pastries, yoghurts and cereals to choose from. There is a McDonalds on the corner and its close enough to the tram lines if you dare to travel this way. We ourselves did not as the stations are too hectic and hardly anyone outside the hotel under stood or spoke english. The taxi's in Budapest charge by the person also so bear this in mind when travelling. This hotel is not really near to anything, everything is a walk away and when I say walk I mean a good walking distance. We must have walked for miles to get to the the River and the Houses of Parliment. We visited two Irish Pubs while we were there, Becketts and Jack Doyles. Jack Doyles was much better. They had live bands playing there. The sole purpose of the trip was to visit the Christmas Markets there and it was nice to see although I wouldn't say exceptional.
