“We loved it.”
Reviewed October 8, 2012

The hotel itself was phenomenally beautiful. The staff was extremely polite and genuinely helpful. The interior and exterior of the building are beautiful and clean. We had a lovely room; clean, plenty of space and comfortable bed. A previous post had mentioned the unfortunate showerheads in the ceiling; once we discovered they were not working properly and spraying all over we took a towel and wiped them and from then on they performed their task well. The New York Cafe has consistently decent food; the rabbit soup was really tasty. The breakfast has plenty to choose from. The location isn't spectacular, however, we did walk to the House of Terror and Opera House. But we did walk around at night - to the grocery store on the corner, the shopping center a few blocks away - and didn't feel any different an atmosphere than you'd find in most American cities at night. We would absolutely stay again.

I have been in Budapest already many times, but this hotel just gives smt. extra to the travelers. Lobby is enormous yet very chich. The bar which in the morning becomes breakfast area is like a museum.

Rooms are very well designed and very spacious. the only thing which is a bit negative are quite high prices if you have couple of drinks in a bar.

I stayed in the hotel during a conference recently and I must say it was one of the best 5 star hotel experience I ever had. Very friendly and professional staff, extremely spacious room, it was a junior suite, but within its category it was definitely larger than in other 5 stars I stayed before and I loved the design. Very comfy bed. The building itself has a late 19th century style, was renovated in an absolutely fantastic way, has a very elegant castle look and when you enter the atrium, well, it is something really impressive. They say their coffee house - which can be entered from the lobby directly - is one of the world’s most beautiful one and it definitely belongs to this category, has a very unique atmosphere and their coffee with chili is worth to try. I loved the Spa, it looks like an ice cave. They have an elegant fine dining restaurant, it’s a bit high priced, but for this category it’s ok, they have beside the international cuisine Hungarian specialties in a very modern from, was a nice experience. There’s a hop-on hopp-off bus stop right next to the exit, so it’s really easy to explore the city. Definitely will return.

Room Tip: My suggestion is --> junior suite

This hotel claims to be a 5 star property and on first impression you are dazzled by the beautiful architecture and the gorgeous atrium. The New York Cafe itself is stunning. The reception staff who greet you are great too. If you ever need help or advice they are brilliant.

Our hotel room looked good. The bed was enormous and so comfortable. On the down side though, the shower was lacklustre and went everywhere soaking the bathroom. The bath was massive and deep but took forever to drain. Anyone with mobility issues would definitely struggle to get in or out of it though. The free wi fi in the room was a bonus.

The spa in the basement was my favourite part of the hotel even though it was a bit of a maze! The pool was long and narrow but warm and well kept with beautiful lightening. The steam room and sauna were lovely as well. For some reason though only the pool was open in the morning.
I didn't have any treatments though as they seemed expensive.

Breakfast was plentiful and served in amazing surroundings. Some of the food on offer was bizarre but there were enough choices to suit everyone. Staff working there however were moody and unfriendly.

We tried the Cigar Bar one night and had a couple of expensive drinks while a third rate pianist played incredibly dated tunes and was unintentionally hilarious. The waiter/barman working there was extremely rude also and service was painfully slow.

With regards to location, the Boscolo is in a poor position a good 20 minute walk away from anything worth seeing. The streets around the hotel seemed very run down and full of dodgy bars, sex shops and kebab shops. I was also horrified by the number of drunks, beggars and homeless people everywhere. Prostitution was quite noticable in the evenings too.
Luckily though, all the hop on/hop off buses stop right outside the hotel. A word of caution though, do not use Giraffe as they are unreliable and use the worst vehicles.

In regards to Budapest, I wouldn't return until it became more more modern and less Third World as it looked tired and shabby with very few interesting sights. Buda Castle was pretty but not historic in any way and views of the river were marred by the trams and roads running directly on front of them.

The local food and beer was mediocre although the wine was quite nice according to my partner. On the plus side, everything was extremely cheap. Sadly I can imagine the stag and hen parties taking advantage of beer at a pound a go.

The absolute highlight of my trip though was a visit to Szechenyi Bath. This made the whole trip worthwhile. I would have loved to try some of the other baths but this is the only one that is truly unisex and so perfect for couples. We went on a sunny warm day and did not want to leave!

Room Tip: It seems the hotel is split into 2 sections with all the good rooms at the front and the more budget...

We stayed for 4 nights for our honeymoon. Amazing spa and breakfast is like royalty. The only thing that hindered our stay was the weather. Highly recommend the hotel. I found Budapest quite difficult to navigate around but the underground and tram system is easy to use.

Room Tip: We stayed in the junior suite which was amazing

The hotel is stunningly beautiful. We would certainly go back.

Nice hotel, excellent service, better to stay in the old section, the new is not quite complete and cold. The main restaurant was excellent the first day and disastrous the next day for lunch, bad service, limited food selection, took forever. We were moved into the old section of the hotel and it was very nice after that.
