“An excellent modern central hotel”
Reviewed October 29, 2009

We stayed for four nights at this hotel. We were impressed with the very modern clean rooms that were well fitted. The staff were all very helpful. The hotel does not have a restaurant for lunches or dinners, but the breakfast was very good with a wide choice of cooked and cold food. Things we particularly liked included: free coffee 24/7 from an expresso machine, free access to two Internet linked PCs, very wide double bed and the room cleaned to a high standard. Only a few things could be improved: it would be nice to have real juice at breakfast rather than juice flavoured 'drink' and the bar prices were very high (so few people used it). However we were very pleased with our choice and would recommend it to others.

Definitely upscale Best Western with European flair. The desk staff was incredibly helpful. Had some specific shopping in mind which they researched for us. Great breakfast. Love the self service espresso machine which is available 24/7. Beautiful rooms. Don't be put off by the BW brand. This is nothing like the US version.

The hotel was of exceptional quality! Room was spacious, well appointed with comfortable beds! Housekeeping was excellent. The only negative was that with wood floors you hear people's shoes above you which can be annoying if they come in late at night.

Breakfast buffet was very good with a wide selection available. The coffee machine is slow and needs at least two fills to fill the cup, but it was worth waiting for!

Complimentary internet computers was a real bonus!

The location was good - about a ten minute walk to the Cathedral. We had a room at the side which was quite quiet for street noise.

Daytime staff were very very helpful with maps and information about the City. We checked in in the early evening and the staff were not very forthcoming with information. A map would have been helpful so that we knew where we were when we went out for dinner. No one offered to help us with our suitcases to our room - which we would have appreciated. We were never told there was a sauna which we found the day we were leaving! However, overall, the staff were very, very good. Everyone spoke English well so communicating was easy.

The price was very good value. Compared to the hotels and prices we had in Vienna and Prague - Budapest was the best value for money.

The hotel itself was very modern, the photos on its website are totally accurate which is good! The room wasn't huge but it was clean and nicely decorated. The breakfast was the usual bread, cheese, meat, pastries etc but it was pretty good. Had a drink in the bar one night and the staff were really nice and friendly, even though we were the only people in there! It's a good location for exploring the sites, and it's really handy for the tram and underground. You're a five minute walk from the stunning parliament building and you get great views from there over the river to the castle. The only slight downside with the location is there isn't much nearby in terms of restaurants and bars. We headed out to Raday utca and Liszt Ferenc utca where there are loads of places to choose from. Budapest is fantastic, we only had a couple of days and wish we could have stayed longer.

After much deliberation and research, we selected the Hotel Parlament for our first visit to Budapest. We did get an attractive rate through the main Best Western website and had carefully checked that the advertised features met our needs. We also arranged taxi transfers from the airport directly with the hotel by email, which worked out well as the driver was courteous, safe and reliable.

We arrived mid-evening and were allocated a twin room on the 3rd floor, despite specifically booking a king-size bed. Truly one of my pet hates is hotels that push two single beds together and claim this qualifies as a double (or even king) room - this is a really big deal for me. I raised this issue immediately with the reception and was offered a very small handicapped-equipped room with a double bed, or the option that we could stay the first night in the twin room and move for the subsequent two nights. We took the latter option, but I did feel the attitude of the reception was one of bemusement, and no apology or compensatory gesture was offered for the inconvenience. Whatever the local tastes/customs are, they should reaslise that international guests may have different preferences that are important to them, and have every right to expect that a king bed room (booked over 2 months in advance) will be available.

That said, the rooms are small but well decorated and equipped. The breakfast selection is good but the breakfast room is a bit cramped. We discovered that the breakfast can be delivered to the room at no extra charge, which was much more satisfactory, and a good quantity and selection of breakfast items were promptly delivered.

The area immediately around the hotel is unremarkable, grid iron blocks of 5-storey 19th century apartment blocks and office buildings, some of which are slightly run down and seedy. An unpleasant local issue seems to be the use of the pavements as public urinals, judging by the many stains on the backstreets - yuk! The Budapest authorities should follow the excellent Parisien custom of hozing down the streets early every morning. Despite this, and a few drunks wandering around, we didn't feel unsafe at any time though, but not really the place for single women or young families. However, a little further afield (5-10 minutes) takes you to Andrasi, the Octogon and the Opera areas which are much smarter with a good selection of restaurants and metro stations

The Hotel Parlament is clearly not (and never will be )a trendy destination hotel, despite the valient attempts to describe it and photograph it fas such on the BW websites. It's also arguably more 3-star than 4-star standard (no restaurant, no room service apart from breakfast and hardly any staff on duty), but as a fairly central base for a city break, it's adequate if the price is competitive. Now I've got my bearings in the city and had a chance to look around the different options, I will probably stay elsewhere on my next visit, even if I have to pay a bit extra.

This was our first trip to Budapest and our flight arrived rather late in the evening (the return was even later). We had pre-booked a 'Zone' taxi that is a fixed price for a particular zone in the city. The problem with that is if you get a 'would be' rally driver for a cabby you may be treated to a white knuckle ride into town as he is getting the same fee however long it takes. He wants to get another fare asap and I think he beat his personal best time on our trip. We wanted a double room but had to settle for a twin on the first night I don't think they have many doubles. The breakfast is the usual buffet with two serve yourself coffee machines that does everything and is free all day until the evening. It has a small sauna and jacuzzi big enough for 5 people. There is also a bar and a small internet area. It is situated near the Parlament building and is a short walk from some of the top ten trip advisor restaurants.

My family are Hungarian, so they had insisted on staying at their apartment(s) which were not so far from the main centre of Budapest.... Thank goodness I didn't stay with them every night. As much as I wanted to spend time with the relos, I wanted to explore the town without having to catch a train or bus etc.
Hotel Parlament was an ideal location to explore the city. Firstly, the staff friendly, and helpful to find my way around. Everything was close by. but I so like to walk everywhere... Close by, there were pubs and etterems (eateries) - for any of you vegetarians like me, there was a very funky falafel place on the next street only 40 metres away that was very yummo. and cheap. Another place I grabbed lunch was just down the street on the right which had 'sandwiches' very cheap that were tasty and great for a light lunch (before a big dinner with the relos ....)
The room was a good size -not huge but ample. I booked a single room and had two single beds to choose from, and a very large bathroom. The bed was comfortable - maybe hard for those not used to it. Quite location. I did see other hotels on the main streets and I was so happy to be in a quieter area,
My only complaints are a) no coffee making facilies in the room; and b) no alarm clock to even know what time it was. But there was heaps of choice for breakfast with breads, meats and cheese (and fruit for vegos like me).
My recommendation, take a walk around, not just toward Parlament but the other way toward Margrit Island (which isn't too far).
